Default AU resale goes out the window...

Was having a look at our local paper on Saturday in the car guide section, and saw a series 2 Fairmont, clean as a whistle. Asking price...

$13,000. From a dealer.

Couldn't believe it. Where does that leave the rest of us?

Not suprised. When people ask me what my AU1 VCT is worth I guess around $10-$13K. Does anyone here expect any Falcon to hold its value? Look at BA Fairmonts, a lot of them have lost about 50% of their value in 3 years and still plumetting. T3's are now bottomed out at $30K, GT's will be there very soon too. EF's and EL's are through the floor, $8K will buy you a good one.

Falcons just dont hold value. Long live buying second hand I say!

Ute owners are fairly safe in all of this, was talking to someone about this just a few days ago, its amazing how much cheaper they are new, but a few years down the track they still hold their value. This is due mainly to tradies and the like not always able to afford a brand spanker, so often a near new one will do and they are willing to pay good money for them.

My XR6 ute is still insured for just under $24k, so I am in no rush to sell it, if I get a buyer great if not keep it for a little while longer, the main thing is if you are selling then stick to your guns. Don't drop just to sell the car unless of course you're desperate for the cash, the only trouble then is that people see you are desperate so will get you to go even further again.

At the end of the day a car is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it, but you can turn this a little in your favor if you can sell it up.

Absolutely.

I expect by mid year that XR6T will start going for $25,000 if not already.

They were already their last year at auctions, not damaged but repoed or end of finance.

Yeah well as i stated alot in other posts , i got my 2000model AUII XR6 VCT in immaculate condition for $10,400 exactelly from a dealer ! (4 weeks ago), original price on the front window was $19,990, but after flashing 'cash' in their face for an hour and saying i will pay no more, they gave in ! , (makes me wonder what they payed for it - bugger all). I managed to get the car insured for $20,000 , so if anyone wants to sleal a car then come steal mine ...lol , i wouldnt mind $20,000 back ! lmao

It is scarey .. I was looking thru some stock my wholesaler has
1. AUIII with 76 000 kays -$9800
2. AU1 XR8 with 89 000 kays - $10 500
3. BA XT with 42 000 kays - $14 000

So it just a Ford thing, which is good for my business but not real flash for the private punters.. The exception to the rule seem to be the later ELXR8's , they are still fetching over 12k for the higher mileage jobbies.

No mate thats pretty cheap, most go for between $12,000 and $16,000, must have no options or be in bad condition or something?

Kilometres would be the biggest factor in pricing though...

Its crazy when you think an AUII XR8 new was around $50,000 in 2000/2001 and now probably only $18,000 or so... jeeez!

I saw a sister car to mine (silver/grey 2000 75th AU Fairlane VCT with the badge on the C-pillar) go for $18,000 on carsales last week. But it had 180,000 kms.

the other mob have the same problem with theres, early clubbies going for a song + stock vt vxs coming out of nsw buy the truck load (not that any one here would want one ) not to mention the second hand mitsos inthe paddock at fowles (vic)
you just carn"t keep building new ones + stock piling them in paddocks for ever + keep used prices up .wich is all the better for second hand buyers but not so good for the industry in general but thats another story..

So happy I paid $3800 for my beaten up AU.
Like I have said many times on this forum the biggest cost in owning a car is depreciation.

My sister has an AU2 SR, full hawk bodykit, 18 inch wheels, 42000k's, and she's the first owner, the car is immaculate (she's a detailer at a ford dealership), she got offered $9500 as a trade on some little jap 4 cyl. So she still has the SR.

well I just looked at a 1998 AU XR6 VCT, full tickford kit (bi-plane spoiler), those nice 5 spoke tickford rims (xr8 i think not the angled xr6 ones), MANUAL and 138000k's for $14999 form a dealer.

Its in perfect nick but a little out of my range, maybe I shoudl try the cash trick...
