Default Focus 09 zetec & iPod

Hi all. Aftr initial problems with my iPod and zetec stereo integration documented here http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11287718 all was going well until suddenly the stereo reckons it's an unrecognized device. I think the other day the firmware on the iPod was upgraded. My wife's IPod nano is fine. Can I take the car to a dealer and get the stereos firmware upgraded? Odd thing is the iPod plays fine over tha cable as 'aux' but no control from the dash! Thanks for any info.

I'd say it's from an update that Apple has brought out, they like to make things hard, I can't even use the media keys on my keyboard to operate itunes anymore because of one of the updates.

I guess just try asking your dealer if there is an upgraded firmware version for your stereo and hope that solves it, otherwise it's down to Apple being Apple.

Yeah the only problem is my dealer is Denmac Indooroopilly which doesn't exist anymore ;-( I think their service center is still open though. This is the sort of thing that you should be able to do yourself (e.g. plug usb stick with new stereo firmware into usb port and press a button combo).

Thanks for the help. I may also try downgrading the ipod firmware, found a couple of sites that claim it can be done.

Oddly enough the firmware version (2.0.4) is ancient - Dec 2009 - the same date I bought it (when we bought the Focus). And this page - http://www.ford-mobile-connectivity....ile_music/ipod - says ver 2.0.4 is the version of the iPod Classic firmware supported, although that page doesn't specify what _Ford_ product is being listed (and it's Ford Europe). Anyway it seems that its had the same firmware since the beginning. I am just trying a factory re-set of the iPod, and for future google's sake, I'll report back what's happening.

A factory reset of the iPod has cured the problem. I don't know what settings were interfering with the stereo head unit (the middle of the three head units pictured in the 09 Focus LV owner's manual) detecting the iPod.

The iPod is the same firmware version as before the reset (2.0.4). When I reset the iPod, I made sure that _only_ the songs were synced - no photos, videos, films, tv shows, books, podcasts, address book or calendar data was sync'd. Some of this other stuff may have been interfering? Or perhaps some other setting I recently fiddled with.

Was probably as I said, just one of the ipod updates, if you really want to test it out update to the latest version again and see if it works, if not then you know the problem.

no no, it IS the latest version. which is mega ancient anyway. must have been one of the settings in the ipod (I did fiddle with some recently) or the fact it got plugged into a mazda 2 which left some sort of viral stain in the software the focus could detect ;-)
