Default Vehicle Speed Sensor

Car: Manual AU2 XR8

Symptoms- Car randomly ides high(around 1200) when coming to a stop. If you engage clutch with it in gear it will return to normal.

Codes: P0500 Vehicle Speed Sensor fault

This comes back when car is started after being cleared. Also have seen P0350 ign coil primary/secondary fault but doesn't come back. Have a feeling this comes up during cold starts if it stalls but not 100%.

I have replaced the VSS on the transmission, still code and issue. Plug and wiring looked fine around the transmission.

Speedo and cruise control work fine. But car seems to not know when it comes to a stop.

I guess next step is to check the wiring. So 3 wires on the sensor red and white going to the cluster then to PCM and a black/green earth.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Default Re: Vehicle Speed Sensor

Have been digging a little more into this as it appears the code comes on even when the car isnt moving.

I have checked the VSS readout on a scan tool in the engine data and instrument cluster and it is working fine.

What I did find was in the ABS data that when the car is stopped the readout on all 4 wheels is 2kmh.

Wondering if this could be what is throwing the code as it takes no movement and just ignition. As the VSS and WSS are not matching.

If anyone has the ability to check their ABS wheel speed data to confirm it should return to zero that would be helpful.

No ABS codes.

Hi. Quite common to show a VSS code after clearing codes if you read the codes again without driving the car as there has been no speed signal input to the ECU. If the speedo works it shouldn't be a problem. Cheers MD
