Thanks for this, but if you want to take the risk and wait for Australia day, its likely but not guaranteed that the sale on the 26th of Jan will see this oil down to approx $30 a bottle. Last time it was on sale was Bathurst day 13th oct. Here

Thinking of grabbing 1 bottle of this deal, then hold off to see AU day for the big buy!

Funny I used to think the same. I called up Mobil and suggested that the 5w-30 was too thin especially in hot weather. Was told that it doesn't matter if its 15C outside or 38C outside, the engine always runs at the same temperature. This isn't my view but Mobil tech seemed to know what he was on about.

Found this strange. I'm sticking to the 10w-40. Running LPG the 5w-30 would especially not be recommended.

When the Shell 10w-40 goes on sale everyone grabs them all before I have time to get in and grab some!

Yeah I never got that either. I mean I monitor oil and coolant temps a little bit, and really they don't change drastically between winter and summer.

It shouldn't drastically change from summer to winter! Engines are designed to operate at a constant temperature, which is achieved after driving the car for several minutes.

Under normal driving conditions, a correctly functioning cooling system should keep the car running at approx the same temp all year round, regardless of whether the temperature is -5C or 40C.

^^^ Excellent! That's what I was trying to say. The operating temp of the engine should stay the same.

If you look in the owners manual it will actually show you on a chart what oil grades to use for which temperatures......So Northern states are generally hotter so require thicker oil......Southern states are much colder so thinner oils are fine.

Synth oils in thin grades can do the same work as thicker grade mineral oils because they are so well engineered.

I use Edge 10-60 due to some abnormal driving.
I also service oil every 5k.
Under "normal" use in "normal" Australian conditions I reckon you can use most synthetic oils almost regardless of weight providing you allow oil to attain "normal" temps before hard acceleration/boost.

Guys just this morning at the Geelong Repco store be quick Castrol edge titanium 5W-30 5L bottle was approx $70 now with 60% off its $28!

The Castrol 0W-40 retails for $85 but apply 60% off then its about $34 a bottle!

Be quick as they told me it was an error but they had to honour the price cos it was advertised as 60%. Going to be changed to 40% later, but still cheapish at that price.

Good luck.

Yeah at 40% off it'll be about $42 for the 5W-30.

Also at 40% off the 0W-40 is $51 for the 5L bottle.

I stocked up with the Repco deal, but interested to see what Supercheap do on Australia day for this oil.
