Hi All,

I m crazy about Ford Fairmont Ghia V6 models between 1995 - 1998, but I really have no idea abt the maintenance expenses abt that car.

Can anybody help me that what is the fuel efficiency of the car? I want to buy that car but at this stage when the petrol prices are climbing up I am worried abt the fuel efficiency of Ford Fairmont V6.

Pls do reply with other suggestions and comments.

Early response with be highly appreciated.

Well first of all... they're not V6's, they're inline sixes, 4.0litres. There has never been a V6 Falcon... not from the first one in 1960 (2.4 or 2.8 inline-six) to today's 4.0 inline-six BAII.

Sorry mates, now u can c I have no idea abt FORDs. So pls help me out, I want to join the ford club by having atleast one ford standing in my carport.

Pls tell me abt 6 Cyl. 4 Ltr. Ford Fairmont, what will be its fuel average and maintenance cost.

I take it you won't be maintaining this car yourself then?

The old falcons are pretty easy to take car of, just try to find one that hasn't done too many kms.

oh, and don't buy one with a V6, its bound to be dodgy!

Wecome to the forums... doesn't matter what you drive, your welcome around here...

The EF and EL fairmonts are awesome cars, i wanted one when I was looking for my car but ended up going for the next best thing.

EF and EL fairmont had:
Trip computer
Climate control
Driver airbag
ABS
Velour interior
Electric windows
Cruise control

They also had the usual options such as:
Leather interior
Sunroof
LSD
Dual airbags

Fuel consumption is about the same as a falcon as they are almost the same weight as the falcons.
Expect about 12L/100kms in the city and about 7-9L/100kms on the highway from the 4.0L i6.
The 4.0L produces 157kW @ 4900rpm in its stock and roughly 360nM of torque.

Rego is about $500 a year and they are a good reliable car if you look after them and sevice them when they are due.

I did my last service myself (180,000) and it only cost me $40.

Parts are always pretty cheap for 6 cylinder Falcons, and as long as they have been serviced regularly then you shouldn't have any problems. Just make sure that the auto is in good nick, if it has been serviced then thats a huge bonus, as rebuilding an auto will cost around 2k.

Some good info

As a general guide the EF/EL 94-98 Falcons are a pretty good things. Parts are cheap, insurance cheap and are usually pretty reliable. They do have some niggling faults nothing catastrophic.

As above make sure auto is in good and head gasket is ok.

As for the fuel economy issue, they are damn good on the highways and almost cant be beat (plenty of power and good gearing) but around town it can be different story. If you do a lot of city driving you may want to reconsider your options or better yet get on on LPG, there is no shortage of EF/EL Falcon/Fairmonts/Fairlanes on LPG.

i am also looking at getting an EF/L

i'v been told the EF uses coil packs and the L went back to dizzy's ...

any idea on which one would be better for performance mods ??

The Taurus has a V6. And it was sold here in the late 90's.
