Default Ford January Sales Reach a 15-Year High

Ford Australia has started the new year with its best January sales result since 1990, maintaining the strong momentum it generated during 2004.

Ford sold 9,122 vehicles during January, which gave the company a monthly market share of 13.1 per cent, up 0.5 percentage points over last year's January result.

"Despite the seasonally quiet Christmas/New Year holiday period, with fleet and government buyers not active and private buyers dominating the market, total Ford sales were up by 968 units over January 2004, an increase of 11.9 per cent," said Ford Australia President, Tom Gorman.

"Territory continued its run of strong results, with sales of 1,468 vehicles contributing to Ford's best January SUV result on record.

"In addition to such a positive SUV result, our forward orders for Territory are strong, with our dealers reporting a high level of interest now that the new year is fully underway.

"Fiesta set a new monthly sales record of 484 vehicles, surpassing its previous best from the month before, while total Courier sales gave the light truck range its best January result on record.

"With the recent launch of Courier V6 and the class-leading power offered by its 4.0-litre engine, this sensational start to 2005 has the Courier model line well positioned to achieve another year of record sales."

Ford sold 276 Courier 4x4 models, which was also a new January record, while Courier 4x2 sales of 209 units was its best January result since 1999.

Other strong performers for Ford included Focus with 1,122 sales and Escape with 375 sales.

Great result there from Ford. It really seems like the Territory has mad a significant impact and sounds like its here to stay for a long time.

Its also good to see that the Fiesta is doing well... now all we need is something to compete against the Vectra..

I wonder how much longer Ford can put up with the Focus, even with the new model i'm tipping it to do no better in the sales charts. Is it time for the rebirth of the Laser?

Commodore ute seems very strong.

Jan 05 is also the third January straight where both Falcon and Commodore sales have declined. 4500 Falcons were delivered Jan 04.

good results for Ford..
Ratt do you think the decline in Falcon sales is because of the Territory..
the price between the Falcon and Territory is what about $5000 from base models..
i am interested in Falcon wagon sales are they poor since the Territory was released..

You know when the Falcon doesn't get a mention in the official press release it's had a bad month.

Wagon sales as far as I know aren't much worse off due to fleet sales.
But Territory has had an effect on Falcon, Explorer and Escape so it's a double edged sword.

Interesting to note that total sales of locally manufactured vehicles for Ford Oz in Jan 05 is 6208 and 6452 for Holden. Representing only a 244 unit difference.

Just heard on the news as a hole Australia had record car sales month for a January.
The imported cars faired very well with the tariff cut..

Good to see again, Ford making good progress. Pity that this double edged sword thingy is affecting Falcon sales. Also with utes, C'mon Australia, the Falcon is clearly the superior UTE!

Fewer F250's were sold this January to last year, the other F Series line isn't doing as well though.

The Territory would have stolen some sales from the Falcon. When you consider the Cost of a Ghia Rwd compared to that of a Fairmont Ghia theres buggerall difference, and i must say you get alot more car with the Territory then you do with the Fairmont Ghia.

Good to see that Ford are still getting more statistical sales than the corresponding months in past years.

I still hate to see that there were only 3500 Falcons sold.

No mate they don't - the platform sales for each only include the Utes and sedans.
