Default blowing smoke KE Laser help

Hi, hoping someone can help me with this one.

I've always been a holden person, always, but just purchased an old Laser KE 88 hatchback as a runaround for my husband as he works on his 1 tonner. The car is fantastic, but blows a large black cloud of smoke when you slow down. Doesn't blow all the time, just occasionally but is enough to block the view from behind. Everything else is perfect. Runs great, plenty of power, perfect through the gears. We've replaced the oil, oil filter and rocker cover gasket, (was leaking slightly). Having never had a Ford before, I thought I'd ask about it before we go poking around any more.

Any help / suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

try looking into having the valve stem seals replaced first
can be done without removing the head

next stop smoke/stop burn off the shelf oil additive use several bottles if you need to / dont change the oil as often / just top up

next if no better motor need rings or find a second motor to fit

Thanks for that. We're put in a product called "Moreys". Supposed to help the smoke issue, but if that doesn't work we'll work our way down your list.

Sorry to blow in but I have recently experienced your problem with the smoke. I have a 1998 KJ laser and she runs so perfect that i could easily fall asleep while behind the wheel.

Mine started every morning black sooty stuff would drop onto the garage floor from the exhaust but apart from that all good. It would only blow smoke on firm/ to hard A cell or comming down a hill and backing it off.
Took her to the doctor and valve stem seals are perfect, air flow meter fine, no blow by from the turbo, oil's fine, water is fine, temp gage fine. Just all of this smoke which is fuel;the car is running to rich. Then we thought it might be the EFI (which is different in your case being a carby?) all the senses are doing what they should it's just so frustrating.
I hope by the time you read this you have fixed the problem. please fill me in when you do. Good luck

sorry to babble but i was shocked to see someone putting up with the same thing. i feel your pain.

IT'S FIXED!!

And all for less than $50.00!!

Turns out it was the Vacuum modulator sucking up transmission fluid. The auto elec. we went to said it's very, very common in the Laser. They seize up and all you do is change it and everything's sweet again.

Our little rocket runs as smooth as anything and not a sign of any smoke : .

Oooops....Sorry... we didn't go to an auto elec, rather a transmission specialist. D'uh....I was thinking of something else.

I hope it's it as well. seems so closely related. I am onto it. Thankyou soooo much. you have saved alot of stress if it's this modulator thingy! hah ha

sorry blonde moment. do you have a manual or Auto? would this vacuum modulator be in both types of transmissions? :

I have an auto..... don't know if it's in both... am not good with transmissions. Maybe someone else on here would know??

Vacuum modulator is for auto's only.
