Default Please help solve an argument..

What would you say the time listed below is?

0.015 seconds

Is it...

A) 15 hundredths of a second?
B) 15 thousandths of a second?

Thanks.

I believe it's A.

As I believe that if it was 0.15, it's 15 tenths of a second.

Simple, its thousanths because you'd need to move the decimal point three spaces to the right to come up with 15. If it was two spaces then it'd be hundrenths, and one space would be tenths

No, it's 15 thousands of a second.

1.0 is 1 second
0.1 is one tenth of a second.
0.01 is one hundredth....
0.001 is one thousandth - 15 of them is 0.015. This is also known as 1.5 hundredths of a second.

And because I know there are non-believers, or doubters, here's a link as to why:

One tenth of second is 0.100 or 100x one thousandth of a second
One hundredth of a second is 0.010 or 10x one thousandth of a second
One thousandth of a second is 0.001

Therefore 0.015 is 10x one thousandths of a second plus 5x one thousandths of a second which = 15 one thousandths of second.

In engineering terms, 0.015 would definitely be referred to as 15 thousandths.

But in sports timing, 0.10 is always referred to as a tenth of a second, and 0.010 is referred to as one hundredths of a second.

Yep - same thing.....the engineering thing and the sporting thing match perfectly.
