Hi there fellow 'forders', its my first day here and i am so far having a bit of trouble navigating the site to actually find what i am looking for.So I was wondering if somewhere here there is a VIN decoder for the 'E' series Falcs as I am considering buying an ED XR8 Sprint and need to check out that it is actually what it's claiming to be? It has so far checked out ok regarding all the options that it should have except for the Momo steering wheel, so please don't bombard me with all the 'BLAH,BLAH' stuff about badges,SVO wheels, tacho's red lining at 5500rpm,colors,and the rest of the stuff that can be added to any XR in a weekends work.I just need to decode the VIN..

Hi Ian and welcome to the Forum.
There is information in the Tech Resources portal on how to decipher a VIN. This is a link on how to read the VIN number. Although the example provided is from an AU it relates to all VIN numbers and how to work out what it means. http://www.fordforums.com.au/vbporta...article&id=201 Hope this helps you some. There are other documents in the Tech Resources section just for E series cars. Cheers Col

Hey guys,
Just saying a quick hello. I have recently bought a ZC Fairlane. I am currently thinking of installing some upgraded suspension from RRS and a Pavtek 363ci windsor. I have always loved my fords. My first car was a 1974 TC Cortina wagon that my grandfather bought new. It had the 4 litre six in it and only 50,000km on it when I got it. It was a 20 year old car when I owned it. I have also had two ea falcons, an eb falcon and a BF XR6 turbo. Apart from the fords I strayed to the dark side with a vt berlina and a HJ monaro coupe. Also had a toyota soarer and a subaru forester GT. Anyway love the forum and will be looking at info in relation to doing up the ZC Cheers, Harry |

Hi all,
Been a long time reader, now going to be a poster too. Currently own (for last 6 yrs) a Vixen BA XR8 4spd. Have been mucking around with it for last few years and now have installed ceramic pacemakers (tuned length), ballistic cats, HM/Perry catback, 2'nd air intake into pod, power pipe thingo, front 30mm sway bar and BPT tune. All good. My wife drives our Lightning Strike FG XR6, 6spd man. Standard. She wont let me mod it, yet.... Cheers Tommie |

Greetings all - great site eclipsed possibly by the Jag Lovers site - yes I have an old Jag BUT a Territory also and with it a few problems. It's an Oct 2008 SR rear wheel drive. Great engine, not overjoyed with the transmission but the room, handling and comfort have to be the best value for money you can get.
Anyway I lost five hours of my life at the dealers today whilst they took the warp out of the front rotors AGAIN and stung me $500 for a new 02 sensor - the one before the CAT'. So the two questions are - Can I expect to have the rotors re-ground every two years and is the 02 sensor failure common? This vehicle never gets run hard, gets fed 98 RON, doesn't tow (much) and only has 78000 under it's wheels. The dealer said he has never seen the sensor pack it in but that warped rotors are common. O.K. another question. I usually do ALL the work on my cars but am slightly confused by E.C.U.'s etc. How difficult is it to get hold of my own diagnostic equipment and set it up to find out what this car is doing. Equipment? Laptop? Special kit?/? Cost? Any help/advice greatly appreciated. SRG |

1. Yes, machining of rotors at 60k intervals is common - and replacement the 2nd time round. It's deliberate based on improved braking from softer rotor materials. 2. The dealer is right in saying the sensor failures are rare - although cars that do a lot of short runs are going to be slightly more prone. 3. There is an article in the tech portal that covers the question of DIY OBD readers along with a whole pile of information about how it all works Link can be found HERE Cheers Russ

Hello all. Thought i'd say hi and not just snoop around.
My names Mick. I currently own an FE LTD and an XE Fairmont wagon. The FE is pretty standard(and a little rough) apart from front super lows and a bit of a stereo. SL rears will be along soon. I'm thinking that a 4L & 4spd auto would be a nice upgrade. Might even be a V8 of some sort. Will be looking around to see what i can learn. Thanks for having me, Mick. |

Hi, my name is Len and this is my first post after joining the forum.
My BA Fairmont has developed a braking problems at 90,000 kms and hopefuuly get some advise about my rear right hand wheel getting very hot intermittantly. My mechanic has looked several times for the problem but the problem is never there when he has a look. Any ideas? Last edited by lenr3; 31-03-2012 at 11:40 PM. |
