I think the VE-VF (A pillar aside) are a better overall car. But the BA-FGX having the better engine and Ford had the advantage with the brilliant turbo option.

Holden really should have put a better 6 cyl in that car. The V8 Redlines are really good cars to drive and they basically have the same base.

I've hired both an FG-X XR6 and a VFII SV6, and drove them both on the road between Cairns & Port Douglas (one of our great driving roads), and found the XR6 to be the better package.

Both were fully loaded (family, luggage), and the XR6 just felt a whole lot better, hands down; particularly in regards to comfort, overtaking, balance and handling.

I know what I'd choose in a heartbeat.

One could say the same about Falcon seating position. It bothers some, not others.

All cars have their annoyances/quirks ect.

I've hired an FG2 XR6 to drive around the north island of New Zealand a while back. Fantastic car for long distance driving; what I liked most was the effortless power from the straight six. XR6 > SV6, easily.

We get it, you prefer the VF.

This is a Ford Forum and while we are always happy to listen to all opinions, your constant questioning of other members with their preference of the FG/FGX is starting to get a little tiring.

You've been warned...

I owned a MK1 G6E for 5 years and now own a VF2 Calais V (v6)

Apart from a weekly drive to bunnings or wherever my car is only used for our road trips (4/yr) so I can't really comment on a commuting preference (I work from home).

Our trips are usually around 5000kms (although Perth last year, and Uluru this year)
so I figure that for my type of use I'm in a pretty good position to make a judgement on which is the better car.

Truth is, there's no difference.

What one is slightly lacking in one area, the other is slightly lacking in another area.

Both are wonderful cars for touring.

Some serious rubbish talked in this thread. Facts are the falcon tech is a bit dated and the vf looks like a Daewoo so pick your poison haha

The VF will not age well, just like the VE hasn't aged well (they look quite boxy and cumbersome these days). The FGX will still look fresh in 5 years.

In 5 years time, people will be paying top dollar for mint FGX XR8's and XR6T's, both Sprints and non-Sprints. If the FGX does have anything going for it in 4.0T & 5.0SC guise, it's the engines. At least that's one more thing over the VF (except maybe the LSA). No one will care about tech, they're performance cars, you buy them for performance!

Mmm VF's. This is what I do to them

Interesting fact regarding the SV6, pictured above, all the plastic under body covers are deleted apart from the fuel tank covers. On this one anyway. My theory is to reduce overall weight

Old commodore V6 were ****! But the Latest SIDI are completly different engines and are superior to Barra i6’s!
But Holden will never have a turbo 6.

This.

The reality is there is no winner. Both are now gone and consigned to the history books. The sad thing is, this type of comparison between two very similar and established products, Falcon v Commodore, will never happen again.

Holy **** the fgx doesn’t even have keyless entry or start, something which is standard in 15k cars. The ssv outperforms even the sprint 8 simply because the chassis is better balanced and it has far better tech, comfort and seating position. The sv6 motor isn’t as strong as the i6 falcon but the rest of the package is better.

these cars won’t age well. The 6 is an old engine that idles poorly. The 8 is far better but the tech and chassis is sadly lacking in the fgx.

The FGX already looks crusty, its seriously the ugliest in the FG range. What was Ford thinking the FGX colours are horrible, Baby Poo Gold, Old Grandma Red! Miss the BA to FG mk2 colours! Every model got less and less bright awesome colours! The FG was the best Falcon by far but wow the FGX was a complete flop! The design is all over the shot, but hey at least it has Cheap Chinese DRL’s lol! The FG were Hella brand headlights but the FGX is a cheap Korean Unit! Should have just continued the Mk2 because was such a nicer package! ESP the FPV models! I would have an FGMk2 GT over an FGX XR8 anyday looks way better.

You may want to re-read the T&C's, specifically #8

8. Continual posts containing negative comments about the Ford Motor Company, Ford related product or the AFF community.
This does not mean that you can't raise a legitimate issue or make the occasional negative comment but consistent bashing won't be tolerated.

Was only once! Suppose to be a discussion isn’t it? I am not bagging all Ford I like and owned an FG mk2, its not just me that dislikes the FGX!
