BS, Poland is NOT a former Soviet state, it’s an independent country that has existed since 966. It was occupied by the USSR after WW2.

Being ignorant is obviously NOT bliss

Your comment is dumb and racist.

Poland is also part of NATO and the EU.

Getting off topic, but my Grandmother was from Lviv when it was part of Poland.
She spoke fluent Russian, forced to like all the other countries in the eastern block.
Poland was a satellite soviet state, but never part of the Soviet Union.

Countries of the former eastern block, are not as affluent as Australia. Very few countries are as affluent as Australia.
I'm suprised and a bit disappointed how many other countries are ahead of Australias vaccine roll out.
Nothing racists at all mate just how I see it.

Lviv was called Lvov before WW2, and not a Soviet State until it was occupied, it is now part of the Ukraine.

Like I said it was occupied by the Soviets from 1945 until 1990.

Poland is part of the EU and has the same Pfizer deployment as most EU countries..

Disrespecting that Country is dumb and racist, (why is Poland part of the EU able to give us Pfizer ?).

Maybe it’s because we put all of our eggs in one basket, and we couldn’t get the other eggs ?

Thanks mate I have actually been to Lviv and have some idea of the history.

How have I disrespected Poland? Did I mention my grandmother was Polish?!

Perhaps do me the courtesy of reading what I actually posted before accusing me of being dumb and a racist.

Probably not the right the thread to discuss, but Poles are not a separate race the same way Australians are not either. It's a nation and its a culture.
Just because you may think someone is disrespecting a particular nationality doesn't mean that they are a 'racist'

Ignorant? Yes. Racist? Probably not.

I would drop the word "the" too - Ukrainians requested it, and I respect that.

But why the hell am I even here.. And why does my 81yo neighbour insist on walking over to me when I'm washing my car last weekend or arriving home from work on Friday.. Yeah, I know you're bored and arguing with the Mrs, but we're in lockdown and you shouldn't turn my 1 hour car-wash into a 2.25 hour experience of WTF!

In the middle of this "exchange" he noted, I shouldn't let my car dry without a chamois.. well f-off then and let me get on with it!

OK, I can't say any of these things, I like him - and want to keep things in the street going well, but don't ask me to come over and fix something I helped you with a couple of years ago... WE ARE IN LOCKDOWN!

No wonder we're screwed.

I’ve got a few of them, one is a real liability to everyone including himself. Will shop multiple times a day most days, wanders over for chats with everyone.

I feel the “coming real soon” announcements by the NSW government predicated a near-immediate slackening of adherence to the regs in my area. More brazen group socialising, and the return at night of youths who just drive around to waste time, stopping at a nearby parade of shops to smoke and talk.

FWIW mate in London said they went test and trace, staff sent home, got tested within x days (no 14 day isolation), if negative, they came back. Risk is that they become positive after the test. He reckons that occurred more than officials were willing to admit, and a lot of infections happened at hospitals.

He also said a lot of retired health care professionals came out of retirement to help with resourcing. The public also stepped in, with millions volunteering to help, more than what was required, to do tasks that didn't require qualified health staff. Not sure how that would sit with the public here, hope we never have to find out.

Researchers Ready Lab-Grown Covid-19 Delta Variant for Human Trials

Quote:
"LONDON—While the rest of the world is trying to stamp out the Covid-19 Delta variant, British researchers are making progress growing a carefully controlled batch in a lab that they hope to use to infect volunteers in studies.

The effort marks a new phase in the U.K.’s human challenge trials, the only Covid-19 studies in the world intentionally exposing participants to the virus with the goal of developing new vaccines and treatments. Other researchers are also isolating and growing Covid variant specimens for study. U.S. government-funded scientists are producing variants for research, but not for use in humans, a National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases official said."

I watched something on TV last night, could of been a Current Affair or maybe Foreign Correspondent or neither, but they investigated the Covid in China last year, that was made public but last night they mentioned the 3 Wuhan Lab workers taken ill in November 2019.
Apparently they said to someone, they had created a corona virus from bats that got out of hand?

Will look on internet today and try find source, they say honesty is the best policy!...it would of been in this case!

Cheers Billy

It might go well here, if people could correlate it to a step forward and not just an incompetent administration extracting the Michael.

I'm more curious why they have to lab grow the delta variant....given its all around us, and they could just extract it from joe public's snot or phlegm...

Growing and "testing" new variants is interesting though....I'm sure this stuff happens all the time with trying to solve diseases, and we are just being made more aware of it now.

I keep hearing the words " Sheldon Cooper " lol, talking about making nuclear bombs in ya backyard, but seriously dident scientists at a place called Wuhan try to do what they want to do now?..ie, make or play around with virii to see if they can prove what they are guessing!

They tried that on Plum Island, Hello borrellia burgduforii, or Lyme disease.

I went to the supermarket yesterday to get some bread. Yesterday was a (relatively) beautiful day here (sunny, no wind) after a week of overcast, cool, wet days.

I had to wait out the front for a period of time as I waited for return of the owner of the car that I had just exchanged some paint with as I attempted to depart.

I don't know whether it was the weather, but I noted a distinct apathy amongst those entering and leaving the shops. Of those who actually had masks on, I estimate about half were wearing them correctly. The other half either had them not covering their nose or were wearing them on their chin. The number of those not wearing masks at all was significantly higher than what I have previously observed, too. I would estimate it at being between 10 and 15% of all the people I observed.

I also noted that a large portion (say, 30%) weren't even bothering to scan in.

Again, not sure if the weather was a factor, but it's pretty clear to me that people are over the whole covid thing. My observations yesterday reflect what I've seen in this thread too.

And I understand the Vic lockdown is expected to be extended by another week.

Nah, it was the ute. No real damage done to either vehicle sans the paint swap. Other vehicle was a Mercedes van, so I was sh!tting myself that the owner would want a full respray

Owner was very good about it. Didn't seem stressed about it at all and appreciated that I hung around to let him know. We exchanged details but he said he'd give it a polish to see if he could get rid of the paint.

Think we can safely say good bye to the GF. Really feel for Dees fans, 57 years since last flag, and they are looking really good for it this year.

Interesting language coming from Vic's presser today. Sounds like they are going to ease some very minor restrictions in the next couple of weeks even if numbers stay the same.

Personally I'd like to see the 5km limit removed.

Nah, its just a conspiracy theory, it's going around at present

As noted above, NSW set another record in the update today with 1,221 new cases which continues to move the 'actual' line above the predictive trend line - mostly because the 10-day average growth rate increased again from 1.059 to 1.069 and that's driving the trend.

The question was asked yesterday about how the current Victorian outbreak is trending compared to the NSW one and I said I'd graph it. For this purpose, I have picked July 15th as the commencement date which is debatable but I had to pick something and that was the first day in double digits this year.

Please note that the chart below looks at the 3rd order polynomial growth rate for both the 2020 and 2021 Victorian outbreaks and the current one in NSW.

As you can see, the initial growth rate in Victoria was slower than that in NSW but between days 18 and 44 it was actually higher but has tapered off the last few days although it will probably rise again given the current numbers (being a polynomial).
