It's a little hard to actually graph because of the lag between cases being identified and those people actually dying but here is what I have:

Ignoring the distorted numbers at the beginning where there wasn't enough testing in place to identify real case numbers which artificially inflated CMR, it got as low as 1.2% in October last year but is trending upward again currently.

'Sydney is on fire with this virus': Victorian Premier calls for 'a ring of steel' around city

https://www.9news.com.au/national/co...nd-city_230721

Quote:
Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has called for Sydney to be encased in a 'ring of steel' as the Delta coronavirus outbreak continues to surge.

The premier said he plans to raise the issue at today's National Cabinet meeting of premiers and the Prime Minister.

Mr Andrews said there is a "national responsibility" to contain the out-of-control Sydney coronavirus outbreak otherwise the "whole country will end up in lockdown".

That’s about so progressive as chucking your asbestos in the stock dam to get rid of it. How does he think forcible containment will help people within Sydney? It’s already being conceded that many transmissions are occurring in legitimate, honest, predictable activities, and that many people with negligible symptoms and no prior requirement to get tested, are carrying the virus.

Allocate 70% of new supplies to the problem areas, I think that's pretty generous, don't leave the rest of the country high and dry with nothing.

That's my quota on this thread for today
You know what, getting 80% into VIC and NSW isn't as crazy as it seems...actually, when you think of it its pretty logical!

Doesnt mean the other states are ignored, but make certain LGA's a priority and that would mean a radius from SYD and MEL for a start.

So rather than be smart enough to understand the message, which even primary school kids would no doubt grasp, it's easier to throw the stones.

And then people in those states wonder why it's still spreading

Is it the current zero cases regime that is making you feel comfortable? You say that the chances of you getting COVID is a minuscule chance, but is that only because the current zero cases mantra is protecting you?

I'm not being critical of your point of view in any way, just wondering as to what is driving your thinking.

I hadn’t thought about it much but yeah I guess the extremely low cases would be a driver for my line of thinking.

Even if I do get it, statistically I probably wouldn’t even know unless I get tested, it seems the vast majority don’t get any symptoms at all, or only very mild symptoms.

I get bad hay fever fairly regularly so who knows, maybe I’ve already had it and I thought it was hay fever?

I still don’t know anyone that’s had it, it almost feels like I’m watching a movie or something it’s so detached from my reality.
Having to wear a mask for the last two weeks is pretty much the worst of my covid experience this far.

There's only been 32000 cases in Australia.
So its no surprise you havnt known anyone that has had it.
Alot of countries have seen more cases in a day than that.

The positive is that the vaccination rate is picking up quite a lot. It would be a lot better if not for the hit job on AZ but what can you do.

The ACT has opened registrations for 30-39s. I tried doing it online but can't do it because I've never been in the ACT system despite living here my whole life .

I called the phone number near closing time and after nearly 3 minutes of VR blah blah I was put in the queue and was 38th which is not that much but meh. Hang up.

No risk here at the moment so I can't be arsed with it, maybe try again in a couple of days.

While driving/living some people look 3-4 cars ahead and prepare, others just stare at the tail lights of the car in front and have to react quickly or get suprised.
Our isolation has given us some time to prepare, but some think it means they don't have to do anything right now.
It's coming, and even fully vaxxed it looks like it's going to be terrible. Face it head on and just hope for yourself and family etc, because we can't be locked up forever.

What does CCP, roads and ports have to do with COVID?

What aren't people as critical of the Labor Premier of W.A. or the Liberal Premier of Tasmania? or the Liberal Premier of S.A. - they have shut the borders tighter than fishes ****s?

Why aren't people getting stuck into the Premier of NSW for her lack of containment? You rip into the Victorian Premier but not the NSW

Why aren't people ripping into the Prime Minister for leading (again) an abysmal response?

You people are sounding like the masses who did the full hatchet job on Julia Gillard (which BTW still continues to day) - this is about the COVID

We've only had ~3,000 cases in NZ, but I feel like I've had a few close calls with a few of the 'clusters' we have had. Between second and third-hand contacts it seems that we humans really get around.
Had a few instances where a workmate has been in the area of clusters when they began, have had to self-isolate while they await test results, and then had to prepare for if they come back positive that we'd be out of work until the cluster dissolves.

Luckily none of it has come to anything so far, but with only 3,000 cases if we've had these few close calls as it is, I don't feel like it would take much for the virus to take hold in NZ.

In saying that, I don't know anyone directly who has had it, but we interact with people on a daily basis who interact with more people on a daily basis and it's kind of like a '... and they tell two friends, and they tell two friends...' situation.
It's kind of a joke here in NZ that everyone knows each other by only two degrees of separation, so it seems that everyone knows someone who knows someone who's had it

The first rule of national cabinet, is you don't talk about national cabinet.......until someone wants to leak it all out.

https://www.theguardian.com/australi...mbed-to-hubris

Quote:
The premier did ask whether or not the commonwealth was prepared to re-allocate doses of Pfizer that had been marked for distribution to GP clinics. Berejiklian wanted that supply redirected to the state-run clinics that would focus on vaccinating people in south-west Sydney – her argument being the current lockdown wasn’t enough to contain this dangerous Delta outbreak.

But that request got a firm no too from the federal officials. One senior official asked the premier (overly aggressively by some accounts) whether she was asking people to cancel their appointments. Morrison told Berejiklian he wasn’t in the business of taking Pfizer doses away from GPs.

Morrison then invited the other premiers to ask questions or make reflections. The West Australian premier, Mark McGowan, queried whether the lockdown Berejiklian had imposed was a serious lockdown given he’d seen pictures of people massing on Bondi beach.

Daniel Andrews wondered whether Berejiklian had modelling to back her approach, and the chief minister of the Australian Capital Territory, Andrew Barr (for obvious reasons given the territory has a porous border and zero cases) asked whether there was a functioning ring of steel between Sydney and the rest of the country. There was a discussion about what role the defence forces might play.
Anyone found out what this National Emergency means for the rest of the country yet?

In saying that, I don't know anyone directly who has had it, but we interact with people on a daily basis who interact with more people on a daily basis and it's kind of like a '... and they tell two friends, and they tell two friends...' situation.
It's kind of a joke here in NZ that everyone knows each other by only two degrees of separation, so it seems that everyone knows someone who knows someone who's had it
Its very odd, it seems people will either know lots of other people affected, or they know none. We have lots of extended families (11 siblings on dad's side, 9 on mum's side) and friends abroad, including NZ. Many are in the hot spot areas at the beginning and even now, and we know of a few who have had it and a few who have died. Naturally my reaction to CV and restrictions is very much different to a lot of people here.

We have had deaths at our organisation in centres located in the US, so management globally take it extremely seriously e.g. all our offices are now fitted with the facial temperature checker, the one where you can see a video of yourself, and there is a person out the front checking that you use it every time. There are cleaners going through all the high touch points every few minutes. We are even now considering providing funding for essential office staff to rent cars rather letting them catch public transport.

BTW, has NZ had ANY hotel leaks?
