I don't think we need to debate what triggers people or what people find threatening.
I think it does come down to trying to understand other people's perspective. You are free to disagree with that perspective but try to understand it. As a man, how would you feel about having your reproductive issues debated and voted on by only women. Imagine that you had no say in it. You would be pretty annoyed. That's the sort of crap women have had to put up with. To that end I would recommend the ABC series Ms Represented as a great series to watch. Think about the fact that 1/2 our population is women and then think about the lack of representation they have had. It's not a feminist propaganda series and gets the point across quite well. There are some accomplished politicians there discussing their experience in parliament. I think the best quote was from Vandstone. She said she will know that we have equal representation when stupid women can get elected as easily as stupid men. Quite true. Go watch the series https://iview.abc.net.au/show/ms-rep...-annabel-crabb

Even if an opinion is at odds with what is currently socially acceptable still doesn't make it wrong. Social standards change. Society thinks differently today than it did a couple of decades ago, so chances are it will change again. There is nothing wrong with having your own set of morals and beliefs. I personally don't agree with everything in this thread, but that's my choice. All too often the current society asks for tolerance while being completely intolerant of opposing views.

Agree, I thought that was the original intent but threads like these bring out the usual morons who missed the whole point of it and try to shout down someone else opinions.

Seems to me that the world, as a generalisation, has moved past being concerned about what an individual's beliefs are to being concerned about how tolerant and accepting they are of other people's beliefs.
Not a bad thing, IMHO. Bit like this thread really.

Opinions about some things don't matter. I like chocolate ice cream for instance. Opinions about other things do matter and do affect others, depending on whether you are in a position to effect change. Eg I don't like RU486. I don't believe in women being able to have abortions. Doesn't matter if it's you or me with that opinion.... but if you are Brian Harradine and hold that opinion and you are in parliament in the 90s and the government wants to privatise Telstra... then that opinion matters a lot....and impacted millions of people. So it pays to oppose people's opinions at times, and sometimes it pays to oppose them a lot.

Except.... Those preaching that everyone should be tolerant of others beliefs or choices are proving themselves to be absolutely intolerant of anyone who disagrees with their view. The irony is awesome. The Margaret Court one was a perfect example, Israel Folau another. I absolutely disagree with their views, would cross the road to not talk to either of them, and believe that their beliefs will largely disappear. But I support their right to her own belief system. But she was crucified mercilessly, he lost his livelihood. And the "respect everyone's views, choices and identifiers" crowd keeps baying for blood. Everyone has the right to be wrong in someone else's opinion.

So you make a post saying I'm not entitle to my opinion, and calling me a Douche But claim nobody is saying that. The issue is not restricted to gender, it covers everything from Politics, Religion, the environment, even eating meat. It's about the woke brigade insisting everyone agree with them, and moreover it's about thought-policing. Trying to insist that everyone must agree with them. Remember the big conflagration of a few years back about so-called gay marriage. It was NOT about recognition of gay relationships, or legal issues relating to estates. They have been legally recognised for decades. It wasn't even actually about the ability for Gays to get "married", as that is a state issue. It was about changing the definition of marriage. |

Bitten by Tommy Raudonikis when you were playing for Queensland in 1980? Or solar keratosis burned off by the dermatologist?

Ear Update ...
The chicks are still hitting on me regardless. To those people who showed some real concern I thought I had better explain. I had surgery on my ear about 18 months ago where some cancer was cut out. About 6 months ago, keloid scarring started to appear. The The treatment which resulted in the original photo was to jam about half a dozen needles into my ear with anesthetic - it hurt like blazes. But I didn't cry. He then injected a few jabs of cortisone and I didn't feel a thing until the anaesthetic wore off that afternoon and I was in a lot of pain until it subsided later on. I see him again in a month's time. I dunno if parts will have fallen off by then. |

I've seen those keloids get successfully treated on "Dr Pimple Popper". It's not always 100% - but she removes them & injects steroids into the surrounding area. With no treatment, they will continue to grow until you have what looks like a nutsack hanging off your ear...
