That was my argument with Ford in the first place. You fork out all this money on a brand new car, the least they could do is ensure that everything is up to date on it.

Finally got around to approaching Hobart Ford about updating the nav data to the latest. (brought a demo vehicle with old data) It took a while to determine the version i had, but when I did Ford updated the data FREE of charge. Noticed the new data was from TOMTOM

After a couple phone calls from them; they approached the local Ford dealer (West Point Ford) who said that as I didn't buy from them they weren't wasting their discretionary funds on someone who hadn't had it serviced by them either. Funnily enough it wasn't due for a service for another few km. Last Ford went to them from 30k to 100k services but I guess that didn't count either, even though they made the point that they'd only seen a BA not a FG from me. I guess it will never go to them for a paid service they'll only see it for warranty work for sure now. Sent from my MZ604 using Tapatalk 2 |

Map updates for LW/LWII Focus are now available for purchase from whereis: https://www.ford.whereis.com.au/shopexd.asp?id=21
Now, we just need to understand what version 20.0 means compared to the Ford codes... |

so does this still need to be installed by the dealer? Or can we do it ourselves?

It was always something you could do yourself (LW and LWII Focus has maps on a small SD card installed in the dash-board just above the central display). Removing the old card and installing a new one takes about 20 seconds.
The difference now is that we can (apparently) buy the updates from Sensis, bypassing Ford and reducing the price (which is still silly-high). What I haven't been able to determine is the correlation between Ford's numbering scheme for map data (numbers like AB3919H449AB) and Sensis' numbering scheme (Version 20). Does 20 come after AB3919H449AB, or is it the same? Contact forms on the Sensis web site are broken, so I will have to wait for some free time to hang on the phone and try to find out... |

In my G6E the sat nav unit is in the passenger footwell forward of the door, left side, would love to update it but after getting 'lifetime free maps' with a Garmin I'm not convinced.

Has anyone pirchased a Focus lately, or since the map update has come out and can confirm that the new maps are installed on new vehicles?

There's no way I will pay $199 for map updates. I'll buy a Garmin Sat Nav with lifetime updates and better features than the Ford unit.

I just ordered the update from Sensis, so it will hopefully be here next week.
If anyone wants me to look up any roads to see if they made it into the map, let me know. |

From the map display screen press left to get.the nav menu, the down to Special functions. Press ok or right, then you should see Gps info, System info, abc demo mode. The stuff I posted is from system information. |

Turning the Sat Nav on.
Not really related to map updates but I have the Sat nav unit in my car. When I use the Sat Nav, I often don't want music or radio playing at the same time. To use the Sat Nav, I find that I have to press 5 buttons -- 1 - The entertainment must be turned on to access the Sta Nav functions 2 - I then select the Aux player 3 - I then select "Pause" to stop the player (and get the peace and quiet that I want) 4 - Press the Sat Nav button 5 - Press the OK button that you have to press every time you use the Sat Nav (arrrrggghhh !!) 5 buttons need to be pressed !! Is there an easier way to use the Sat Nav and not have the radio or music playing ??? I have a TomTom in the other car - no need to press any buttons at all - it comes on automatically when you start the car - bit of a difference than having to go through pressing 5 buttons - try explaining this procedure to someone who is not used to the car. Thanks for any help or suggestions. |

I have version 2 in my Focus ST. Rather than shell out $200 for the upgrade, has anyone got version 3 that they have replaced with version 4 lying around that they are willing to part with or sell?

I'm surprised you have version 2 as the ST came out some time after my titanium.
If my old maps are of use you can have them for postage |

So I ordered the new SD card from Whereis (followed the link from the Foird web site).
Yesterday a DVD arrived for a Toyota. Tried to call their customer service centre - but they have no idea about maps and upgrades and such. They suggested I email. The 'contact us' links on the whereis web site are all broken (404 errors: checked multiple PCs/multiple browsers from several different physical locations) - and they don't list an email address. So I have filled in an RMA request. Let's see if that generates a response. |

the after market GPS are best because they generally do not have the long delays before updates and are cheaper! There seems to be very long gaps between a new digital map released and it being formatted to suit particular vehicles software

Hi all,
Reading the first post up is it fair to say, there is no way to crack the SD and update the map? So if we want to get an uptodate map we have to buy a $199 SD card from ford with maps that are x old and then maybe we can update this from the whereis website? Is that about the bottom line? Cheers, Daz |

sounds about right, better to use an after market GPS if you need cheap maps and up to date ones

Hi all,
Just double checked my sotware info says v2 as per pic - only brought the car in Jan this year - ex Ford Geelong car reg 2013 - has ABA on the SD card, so thinking this is actually an old version and the latest is v4 software with AC on the SD card? Goin have a go a Ford for lastest SD card. Daz |
