Please have mercy on the Commodore badge and kill it. It is already a disgrace they have gone this long with it, at least the Falcon went down with dignity.

They are saying it is the highest selling large car but is it much difference in size between it and a Camry?

Latest commodore is better than the latest falcon. If you want to buy a large 4 door sedan for Aussie manufacturers the commodore is the only choice.

Each to their own. New Passat wagons look great IMO. I'd probably put the Commodore second last just ahead of the Liberty. Keeping my VF is preferable to any of them though.

The nameplate is going to continue to live on,for the foreseeable future. The “sleeping lion” will awaken.

Which ever you prefer grab one now before the bogans get to them,
it's heartbreaking to see dilapidated late model Falcons and Commodores

ooooh, you mean the ZB?

OK.....the bogan can have at them.

Well that's True, Has Mondeo ever sold over 400/month yet Ford have kept it on.
But the Mondeo has never been the flagship model of the dealership

Agreed, Falcon was and its sales are 0 as Fords new flagship is the Ranger, in line with current consumer trends.
Holden's new flagship and no1 seller is Colorado, another ute, go figure.

It used to sell over 400 a month easily. It's just completely died off in the past 1-2 years with it getting old, and buyers moving away from sedans.

The ZB is going through this now. Down to just 309 buyers last month.

Mondeo was deleted earlier in the year. Its an order only until this month for fleets in Ambiente guise.

It's a shame that Holden couldn't have anticipated what everyone else seemed to have known was inevitable. That way the well respected Commodore nameplate could have been retired with some dignity when the last VF rolled down the line.

How they ever thought Australians would buy the smoke and mirrors illusion that was the ZB Commodore just beggars belief.

I don't knock the Insignia, in fact I think it's probably a very good car on its own merits. Unfortunately though, its star was tarnished due to being thrust into the limelight as the lead actor in 'The Great Commodore Swindle of 2018'.

Marketing hype and spin can only take a company so far. Wallets literally flew back into pockets all over Australia once the car buying public caught the unmistakable whiff of cow manure emanating from Holden showrooms.

PSA may even make the announcement as its probably not viable without the US market.

Sad news really, Holden from 10 years ago to now, what a roller coaster ride. Surely they don’t have long until they are no more.

15 years I ago I was heavily involved with the HF V6 project. Holden were on a high. New assembly plant in Port Melbourne. New engine with big projected sales of the SIDI and Turbo versions to Fiat and Saab respectively. How quickly it all unraveled.

It won't just be the Holden nameplate, but GM will pull out of Australia/NZ completely. If they couldn't make the numbers work for the whole of Europe, why would a heavily cost conscious GM continue to support and develop RHD vehicles for the tiny Australian market.

When Holden was number 2 or 3 in the market, perhaps GM would have seen a viable case for Holden, but they battling to stay in the top 10, I can't see there being new models arrive beyond the current life cycles of what they are selling now. The Commodore and Astra being an expensive buy in's from PSA, these were obvious candidates to drop first.

Whilst it's sad for dealership employment, I have no sympathy for the situation Holden and GM have found themselves in. You reap what you sow and GM's arrogance, poor products and stupid product planning over many decades has lead to where they are now.

They shot themselves in the head 15 to 20 or more years ago when they were planning the VE.

They built a car that had much going for it at the time as a performance sedan but it was skinned for appointments and gadgets compared to its imported competition and the bread and butter variants of the Commodore lost their loyal customers.

When SUV’s became the must have for families those customers were never going to return.

The rot started about 15 years ago when GM purchased Daewoo, made them GM-DAT and started selling Daewoo crap with various GM badges including Holden.

The HF V6 engine and Zeta platform promised much but failed to live up to expectations.

It’s a sad day. What ever you think of ZB, to see the Commodore name gone is just sad.

A strong Holden always meant a strong Ford back in the day. It’s a shame that’s gone.

Exactly. When Ford announced they were pulling up stumps in 2013 I said Holden will follow. People said I was talking faeces and Ford was only closing because they made poo cars which nobody wanted. I said one needed the other to justify building cars in Australia.

Tbh for me the commodore died with the VF. Today's announcement is just GM no longer being in denial,

The whole ford vrs holden thing ended then too tbh
