If i could of afforded a '68 Stang i would of bought one.
At the time i could afford an R100.
Had the car for ten years.
Learnt to rebuild it, race it, modify it.

There is something about the old school Jap convertibles...

The Datto 2000 has already been mentioned.

But I like the Honda S600 / S800 cars...

Yeah Im pretty sure you can use Silvia diffs in 1600's etc.. with little to no mods, and they started in 1968, but the IRS setup is a little different to what we have today

pretty sure the first post said something like 'if you are going to bag Jap cars, dont other posting'

not all cars are to everybodys taste, but seriously, if you dont have anyting costructive to add, then dont bother replying. some of us can appreciate other vehicles besides those that Ford Aus build.

I know there is some 1600's on already but no two doors. Wish we got them here!! Oh and if I was to get another it would have to be this colour (honey brown) just suits them for some reason.

Its alright Ive heard it before though most people think its a Delorean or monza LOL.Its really The motor I liked But the body was an added bonus.

But would you take a Mustang II (either Boss or Cobra II), Pinto or Chevy Vega (Cosworth) over them? An AMC Pacer V8 perhaps?

This is one of the best looking cars to come out of the 80's. Mitsubishi Starion, and they were damn quick

There was a really nice original Starion on one of the import sites a few months ago 40,000km $8-9k and it was the “big block” model – the 2.6 litre that America got.

I have an '84 MK2 Supra same as in the first pic, had it for 10 years, I'm currently in the process of shoehorning in a 351 Cleveland for a bit of fun. Also used to have a 76 skyline with the triple carbies and IRS went pretty well.

You just reminded me of a mate and the way he describes his Fiat Arbath "Double Bubble" Le Mans car. Late 50's early 60"s (not sure)

He often says it has "the BIG BLOCK" with a SMILE ON HIS FACE - the 1000cc engine not the 850cc.

ANd it a massive 1050 after boring and stroking.

PLEASE do not let it degenerate into a sllnging match between US classics and Jap classics.

I reckon most of the old Jap stuff is pox, not my cup of tea, but I quite like the last of the RX7's, they were a damn good looking car and went hard. Not a fan of rotaries but you can't deny the performance, especially the Aussie SP versions.

a mate had one when we were younger with a 13b bridgeport running a garret turbo ( not sure of the size ) and it went bloody hard

Technical Contributor: For members who share their technical expertise. - Issue reason: Trev has owned several boosted fords and has really contributed a lot of info on them. His posts in the bike section are also very helpful. I think he should be recognised as a technical contributor.

Datsun Z cars are about it for me in regards to Jap classics. Still plenty of them getting around too. One does many trackday and hillclimb events in WA and boasts a 383 Chev under the bonnet. A 240/260Z are the only older Jap cars I would consider.

What a touchy lot you are? I did say something constructive - most of those Jap cars are rubbish - it's true. Brocky tested and whole bunch of them in the eighties for a Motor or Wheels article and all the Toyota's and Nissans had dreadful handling, suspension compared to the Brock commodore and Falcon

I also said that the tables have turned - US cars are generally rubbish now and the Jap stuff is very good.

And I'd take any Tri Five Chevy (55,56,57) over any of the Jap cars as well. Look at the prices they go for - you know why? because they have style and character.

To each there own - but I'm starting to see why Ford sales are down now.........

probably because they may not have been in the championship?

from what i've just searched for there were no jap cars in those touring championships.. In fact i doubt there was many jap cars in aus by that time anyway..

Holden FX through to EH, many Mini models including the mighty Cooper S, Cortina GT and Lotus, Mustang, Chevrolet, Falcon, Peugeot and Alfa Romeo is what raced back then..

oh wait there was one Datsun 1600 on that website(i know its a historic racing but they race the same cars) but guess what.. since None of the jap cars from back then were big V8's they wouldnt have raced in the same class anyway...

EDIT: wait sorry - i just re-read your post. so you say you cant even think of them racing that that time? well then why the hell would you compare them?

We did actually get a few of them as they were destined for NZ but got mixed up along the way..... We have got a 1600 Fairlady and 1200 racecar as garage fillers at home (both of them are the wifes)
