You don't have to use the same make/model of disk, but it is not advisable to not use the same Make/Model of disk, as not all drives are compatible with others. Especially WD drives.

but if you use the non redundant RAID 0, like i said, the 40gb and 60gb hard disks will act as one single 80gig hard drive, and actually be much faster, as the pc would be able to retrieve and/or store different pieces of data simultainiously

nice SLI system there, why did you choose two 6600GT instead of one 6800GT?

Yes but it will be alot more efficiant using 2 identicle drives...I mean, with that setup you are sacraficing 20GB and 1800rpm, and this is before we mention cache sizes. If you use identicle drives then everything is identicle, meaning 100% compatibility, 0% Space or Speed wastage. It will be lightly faster then if you use two identicle drives made by different manufacturers, as the drives are mapped out exactly the same...The speed increase will be 1.3% or something, but better then nothing, and you will get 100% compatibility.

yea true, raid doesnt offer much performance increase in normal computing anyway, its really not worth it unless its for a server or if you do alot of SQL

wanted to have the dual SLi running. I would have went for the dual 6800gt but the cost was way over what i wanted to pay, and not at all worth the cost. from what i have read the dual 6600gt's aren't too bad at all. i would have liked to wait until Ati release their Sli cards but if i keep waiting for different things to come out i will never get a pc. originally was gonna go for the Ati X800XT but going the dual route saved me $250. Can always upgrade later i guess

Well... might aswell update.... I'm running now...

AMD Sempron 2200+ 1.5GHz SktA, 256k L2 cache
Abit NF7 m/b, nForce 2 SktA
768MB PC2700 DDR DRAM
Maxtor 80GB ATA133 HDD "DiamondMax Plus9"
No CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drives (they both died.... grr)
NEC 1.44 MB Floppy Drive
Powercolor 256MB ATi Radeon 9600LE AGP 8x
On-board 6 ch nVidia sound
Creative Cambridge FPS1000 4.1 speakers running as 2.1 (won't recognise two of the speakers for some reason)
LG Flatron 775FT 17" monitor
Custom build mid-tower ATX case with seven 80mm LED case fans (5 intake, two exhaust) and a blue cold-cathode light
Stock AMD CPU fan
300W ATX PSU
Alcatel SpeedTouch 530 USB ADSL Modem
On-board 10mbit LAN
Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 2.0 USB (had it since 2001)
Microsoft Windows 98 PS/2 Internet keyboard (had it since 2001)
All running nicely on Windows XP Professional CE.

Got a HP Deskjet 970CXi Professional printer and a Canon N650U USB scanner too.

Now what to do about my busted optical drives... replace them with a DVD-RW... or cheap out and get another CD-RW/DVD combo?

PowerMac G5, Dual 2.0Ghz PowerPC G5 CPU's
1GB Ram
200GB HDD
In other words, stock standard, and before you say anything about this being weak compared to an iNtel or AMD, this is a PPC, and 64 Bit.

PowerBook G4, single 1.33Ghz PowerPC G4
768Mb Ram
60GB HDD
6 Hour Battery Life
Also completely stock.

I only own one PC, and that is a work Dell, of which, I have no idea of the specs, except that its a Latitude D600 with a ugly Intel Centrino Sticker on it.

Oh yea and it got so hot because of this bloody queensland summer that the 2 pin things that are soldered into your motherboard to hold the heat sink on your north bridge chip (I THINK thats what it is) melted off and my heatsink is no longer

case gets so hot you burn your hand on the side

Hasn't played up though
