Hows this for the ultimate barn find

If you want to drool take a look at what they found in a barn. There are about eight sections so keep watching, it automatically goes on to the next section.

(couldnt edit prev posts so have to re post)

was watching the vid Neale posted up about the Hartung collection and when they were pulling all the old bikes out the shed i was thinking 'i wonder if that wayne guy from chasing classic cars was about for this'
sure enough a few mins later you see him in the back ground
then i recognized the host who was the guy who restored/clean up and got running waynes Thor motorcycle and sidecar on "chasing Classic Cars'
then they pulled out the white Verita car
was good to see where the collection came from when previously watching the actual show
unreal, over a million bucks just in bikes i think they said
be good to see if theres an actual list of every car and bike and the prices they ended up going for at the auction

what is it about finding stuff thats filthy in a barn that hasnt been touched for 40 years?
(or in that vids case, over 100 years for some bikes!!)

love it

Wow a 69 Shelby. This was in Australia right? The whole Mustang fraternity around the world would be interested in that.

I still cant grasp the concept of how these occur, something rather big to keep quiet for so long and surely more than one person would know about it.

I know of a person with a rare car that had been hidden away for over 30 years & none of the experts knew about the cars whereabouts until it was brought out of storage recently.

There were only a couple of select people that knew about the car & they were sworn to silence because the owner was fear full of the car being stolen if anyone found out about it. It was probably a similar set of circumstances that led to this car being hidden away for so long.

Ok the owner is still a bit shy about telling people about it. Its not a car that is that well known in Australia but is a cult car in the UK & Europe, see if you guys can guess. Gotta keep the suspense lol

Quite sad really. This guys collected his whole life, and now he's dead, the vultures have come in to claim their corpses.

If it was me, I would have arranged a massive pit in the ground and have it written in my will to bury me an my collection in cement. Take it all to the grave with me.

What a shame would have made a museum out of it all or something!

Its a car on my bucket wish list.
That Holden dealership is brilliant. I love poking my head into old country dealerships. I was lucky enough to have a squiz around the Castlemaine Ford dealership before it shut a few years ago. Had a good chat with the sales guy, and think of that day every time I go by.

They are good fun to drive, in their day they would have been something else. Whey you compare them to how a base model Cortina drives the Lotus is a completely different car.

My first car was a 66 Cortina 440, bench seat, column shift. My parent s bought it for $400 back in 1973 when my grandparents came to Australia for a holiday. British Racing Green, it was a great little car. Made way for a TC Cortina 2000 station wagon; that was a pile of junk!

even if the mk 1 cortina isn't decent on it's own - the lotus part makes it a very desirable car

of course, i am biased since my grandfather/old man owned/owns a 2 door mk 1 consul cortina, but i doubt there would be many enthusiasts that didn't appreciate a lotus cortina
the cortina gt/gt 500 won bathurst 3 times - effectively it was the fore-runner to the gt falcon

My 66 GT Cortina was a barn find when I found it. It's stable mate was a genuine Lotus Cortina (tried but couldn't afford it). Story goes the guy bought the GT - quick resto of body paint interia engine etc in early 80's, drove as weekender for approx. 1 year when found Lotus. Same resto but swapped the block, bellhousing & gearbox complete between the 2 cars. So I purchased a genuine GT with unrestored Lotus mechanicals (GT head) for $400 in late 1990's. Again a quick touch up & became my daily for approx. 5 years, been slowly completing full nut & bolt resto since - almost there. Great little cars, love to be driven hard on bitumen & dirt, & in good mechanical order will stick with many new cars of similar engine size.
