Thanks all for the answers so far, I will put all the good ones into a word doc so she can do the research. I appreciate the help, and in turn I shall convince her that Fords are good cars!

I said DDT because that was an insecticide used to eradicate the little buggers eating the crops... but the devastation ensued, including to people, was awful.
DDT prevented literally hundreds of millions of deaths due to Malaria, and is still being used today, mostly for health reasons rather than agriculture. The problems primarily arose from wide spread over use leading to resistance, arguably comparable to the use of antibiotics today.

Just a thought…

Now don't you go putting a balanced side to the argument, you saw how the kids questions were weighted. Nothing but Bob Brown meets Bambi will suffice.....

If it can be at least backed up by factual evidence, Heather (daughter) would LOVE to get in there and argue about it rather than tow the greenie line

I'm holding the socialist fort at the office whilst my comrades are out demonstrating!

I'm too hung over for politics today... I withdraw my earlier comments

Maybe, but one point in his favour at least is all the money he donates to charity.

Another major problem with DDT is biological accumulation. The insects get poisoned and die, a bird eats several insects and has thus got several doses of DDT. It persists in fatty tissues of animals, until they are eaten, and in this way continues to move up the food chain. It's been linked to the thinning of egg walls in birds, and I'm fairly sure fish don't cope too well with it either.
