Rub it in, why don't you Tibbo...

I will be doing nothing to cut the cost of petrol. I'm already running LPG, and that costs me $26 for a full 85 litre tank, so it's all good. Actually running better on LPG than it is petrol.

EDIT - I get around 600 kms out of the LPG, only put in $25 of 95RON when it beeps at me. My reading at the moment is 810km, still got around 80km of gas left and 110 DTE for petrol. Once I get these mods going, it won't have that good an economy...

I switched from the BA to the bike as my main form of transport - its not for everyone (i.e. if you have kids or are a tradesman).

But I get 400kms out of a 15L tank of in 100% city driving :hihi:

Ive got a bike as well! I barely do 100kms a week in the car! Im fine for it to stay this way too once petrol gets really expensive.

The good old CBR 250 is only good for one thing and that is economy!

Why worry, you get nothing for nothing, I own 4 V8's, one is my work ute, which tows a very non aerodynamic trailer, and I could not give a stuff.
If I wanted to drive a 4 or 6 I would have the sex xhange and call myself a sheila.

V8's all the way....love my horsepower.....

There's no point. As far as im concerned, the days of fossil fuel guzzling cars are coming to an end. Wether you're talking big block V8 or a hyrbid 4 cylinder. And by god, i'll keep driving this thing to work every day until im out on the street.

Trying to rationalise fuel consumption simply makes the problem worse. Jevon's Paradox : http://www.answers.com/topic/jevons-paradox

I say live it up - we'll be the last couple of generations ever given the chance to stomp the loud pedal on big, meaty engines. Alternative fuels are a fools paradise, its never going to happen. Enjoy your oil while you can!! Once the price of fuel is too much to afford, that'll be game over.

I'd love to buy a 600cc sports bike - but the fiancee would kill me, then disown me, and maybe not in that order.

I public transport it to work everyday, its great, ~$26 a week in transport costs vs ~$10 a day for inner city parking alone. I'm currently attempting to sell the BA XR6, because I just don't use it any more. It does about 20km a week at the moment and $15 in petrol is lasting almost 4 weeks.

I'm thinking once spring comes around to start riding a push bike to work to get some exercise in - however that could only really be a 4 day a week process as i'd need 1 day a week to transport clothes in and out of the office.

Driving, except for the joy of driving is out the window for me, just because I don't need to, and I don't miss it at all.

Simple, I'll go back to a manual 2.0 Mk II Escort, with a few mods (extractors, decent exhaust, cam designed for low down torque, 3.77:1 diff), may not be as fuel efficient as a newer car, but heaps of fun (should be able to get it to do 0-100 in about 8 seconds, which is ok for a 4) and still a LOT more fuel efficient (well, around town anyway, freeway is a different matter, but I dont' spend much time doing those sort of speeds) then the XF is.

In fact, one day I plan on getting another Escort, they're just so much fun! I don't care if people think it's a "girls car", they're quick enough from the lights, corner damn fast, and with RWD, you can hang the tail out if you want...

Any one seen this email that was doing the rounds, about 6 months ago?

Quote:
Subject: Fw: Petrol Prices (this is worth reading)

Those who know me well will know that I don't send nor would have ever recieved a chain letter from me.
Which is why I ask you all to take this seriously. I believe we can make this work and not get stood on by those barstards who run the petrol companies.
Have a read and I'll leave it up to your free will if you want to do something about it.

regards

Gino.

Petrol prices - worth thinking about!

I called the number on the bottom of the email, and it is for real.
This initiative does come from Barry Minster, worth calling and
chatting to him if you need reassurance.

Apparently we are going to hit close to $1.35 a litre by the winter.
If this happens the prices will flow on down to the price of every
thing we buy! Want petrol prices to come down? We need to take some
intelligent, united action. Philip Hollsworth, offered this good idea.

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy petrol on a certain
"day" campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil
companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue
to "hurt ourselves" by refusing to buy petrol. It was more of an
inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever
thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work.

Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us
to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP at .89 / .95 cents, we
need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the
marketplace not sellers. With the price of petrol going up more each
day, we consumers need to take action.

The only way we are going to see the price of petrol come down is if we
hit
someone in the pocket by not purchasing their Petrol!

And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.

Here's the idea:

For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two
biggest oil companies (which now are: BP and Mobil). If they are not
selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If
they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow
suit. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of
BP petrol buyers. It's really simple to do!!

Now, don't wimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll
explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!! I am sending
this note to a lot of people. If each of you send it to at least ten
more (30 x 10 = 300) .and those 300 send it to at least ten more
(300 x 10 = 3,000)... and so on, by the time the message reaches the
sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION
consumers!

Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all. (and
not buy at BP and Mobil) How long would all that take? If each of us
sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt,
all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next
8 days!!! I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much
potential, did you! Acting together we can make a difference. If this
makes
sense to you, please pass this message on.

PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE 80 cents a LITRE
RANGE
.

It's easy to make this happen. Just forward this email, and buy your
petrol at Shell, Caltex, GAS. or Gull Outlets and drive past BP and
MOBIL Stations.

Yeah, it's a hoax... can read about it on one of the hoax/urban myth sites...

It pretty much ignores the principles of economics and the way the fossil fuel market operates.

Makes sense though.

If only a third of BP's customers went to Caltex or United instead, that would have to hurt their bottom line.

No argument there.

If someone can get me a fuel as good as Ultimate 98 i'll join in. Lol.

Petrol is still friggen cheap when you think about it tho.... still cheaper than milk, still cheaper than water. Consider this... I get 20L/100km in my car - or 200mL will get me 1km. Now, think about how long it would take and how difficult it would be for me to push my car 1km. Thats a LOT of energy considering 200mL only costs me 25c at $1.20/L. Even at $2/L that would be damn cheap fuel.

i couldn't care less. i don't even bother looking at the cost per litre anymore. if i need juice, i fill up. where we live we are very dependent on our cars. the guvmint dosn't see fit to provide "bush" people with a great deal of public transport, if any. i would ride a pushy to work but it's a 60km round trip. we also have 4 teenagers which would be impossible to cart every where in a focus or similar sized car. we arn't spoilt with the gas option either as not all fuel suppliers offer it. so in summary we put up with it.

Next car I'll be going for one of these. Smart Roadster by Mercedes. Cheap petrol, my mate works for Mercedes and borrowed one for the weekend, $25 to fill the tank and lasts about 600kms. Sick little car, gets lots of looks.

I could be wrong, but I thought that the Mobil refinery in Melbourne supplied some of Sydney, also that Woolworths import their fuel from Singapore .

Don't believe all of what the fuel companies tell us, they are getting fat & lazy.

EDIT; Anyway, that email mentions boycotting BP & Shell, you have a Caltex refinery there, use them. :Up_to_som

Ive always had a 4 cyl car, and they do me fine. I'd probably go for a turbo nissan or something. I currently have a Nissan NX Coupe 2.0 which is virtually a 2 door pulsar. A GTI-R pulsar would be nice

With conventional mixers and the such ... yes it is less then petrol .. but the new LPG "INJECTION" makes more power than petrol ... just hasn't been released in Australia as yet ... I will be converting my Vialle gas mixer over to an LPG Injection kit when it becomes available.

More power and more economy as well from what I have heard .. and also less of those start-up headaches too.

It's the future of LPG .. and it's looking damn good.

Correct Mechan!k. The new LPG injection technology is the way to go. You can get it done now through limited LPG installers. It takes a while though, as Bill Campbell makes the injectors himself, and I guess at the moment he is only making them to order.
