I also love Adelaide; it always strikes me as a somewhat boganised version of Perth. Very friendly and nice restaurants but Glenelg must be the only place in Australia where you can still see teenagers in Valiants with fluffy dice doing bog lap circuits of the street at night with stubbies in hand. Not even in Rockingham or Gosnells can we still see this in WA. Perhaps it should be respected as a uniquely surviving otherwise lost aspect of 70's Australian youth culture.

Adelaide cops a lot of crap but its actually very easy to drive around and there's really nice and cheap food on O'Connell Street in North Adelaide, I always stay there when I visit, its nice being able to walk out your apartment having choice of about a bazillion cafes and restaurants where mains are sub $40 unlike Melbourne.

Tony Tomatoes there does one of the best Pizza's I've ever had.

Casino leaves a bit to be desired though

Yopu can tell the difference in 'accent' between people from Adelaide and Perth compared to Melbourne and Sydney, they sound different.

Not sure if it’s still on but head down to the Grace Emily pub. Monday nite open mike night with “Billy Bob and the BBQ boys” top musos . Finishes up pretty late, half time snags out the back. Used to be a top night.

Adelaide really is just as its portrayed, a big country town which can appear to be stuck in the 70/80's.
The best part is its easy to get around and virtually impossible to get lost in as its bordered by ocean to the west and south, the Mt Lofty ranges to the east, and if you find yourself too far north you'll end up in one of those blue plastic barrels that BA-XT mentioned, at which point getting lost will be the least of your problems...

March is apparently madness.... when we came in May a few years ago it was wonderful.... Victor Harbour, Handolf, and up to the Botanical gardens up at mount Lofty summit were just amazing.

Very easy to get around coming out of Glenelg and heading out to day trips. Traffic was so quit compared to Melbourne.

We stayed at Semaphore Beach last January.... was just way way too hot. Was 47 on the day we left!

Also coming into adelaide with still slightly warped rotors certainly isn't fun with the large downhill sections.... lovely beautiful drive though. Just got to get those rotors machined next time!

I came to live in Victoria in 2003, and often spotted people sitting at the lights sucking back a VB etc. To my surprise I found it was legal, it was around 2011 when they closed that loophole and made it illegal.
Still plenty doing it though, I often see people popping into Dan Murphy's to purchase 1 cold can..

I've done it before as well, stopped into a bottle shop and grabbed a 6 pack out of the fridge had a solitary coldie on the way home and the rest at home.

You still see people doing it now, you see it pretty commonly on the Tullamarine Freeway around knock off time for the tradies, I guess people weren't aware of the rule change.

Or it could be like smoking, Melbourne has no smoking areas everywhere but people still smoke in them and no one really cares.

Probably because it'll make them want to start again.

So out of curiosity, why is it illegal:

* for passenger(s) to drink alcohol in the car, provided the driver is under the legal blood alcohol limit?

* for the driver to consume alcohol while driving, provided they are under the legal blood alcohol limit?

a) Can you drink out of a can, stubby or long neck without taking yours eyes off the road; or do you drink your beer with a straw?

b) Another reason it slows down road side and random breath tests as the have to wait quite a while for the body to get rid of alcohol fumes from the mouth and throat.

c) People also used to use it as a way to get off DUI charges by sculling some beers after they had been pulled over.

I’m sure it’s assault. There is a test case underway where someone is accused of complaining about the smell of another person; the outcome of that will assist…

Way back in '97, I did a security course and was told of an incident where a person dropped one in a lift, and when the lift opened and a victim walked out, the culprit laughed, and the victim had them charged with assault.

Not sure what the outcome was, but it's a example of a deliberate application of force.

At least in a car you can open windows, unless the window "lock" button is applied.
