for what it is worth anyware from $100 + is good it will depend on what is out there at the time of sale .. And a bit more useless info for you we did some testing way back when. a 220 with a cat back made on average 5 to 7 rwk more than stock, with factory headers . with Pacey TRI Ys made a extra 3 to 4 rwk on top of that much the same with the 4 into 1s but shifted the torque and power band up the mid to top end of the range .. Horses for courses I suppose but definatley wouldnt be binning them
exactly i cant beleive all the money and time people spend to get 3-4 kw higher up in the rev range and lose some down low. but i suppose that trying to go faster will always cost and comes at a price to every day driving. i always heard that the 220-250 pipes were diferent to the others, but i cant see any difference between my 185 and 220 pipes but i haven't looked that hard and the heat covers make it hard to see

Default Au XR8 header modifications?

Both need the collector section cut off and opened up, once this is done they are quite a good header, bang for buck on a mild 5.0.
We put them on the AUII Fairmont Ghia 5.0 with the modified collectors and it was a great improvement over stock.
Can I ask what exactly is involved in cutting the collectors off and opeing them up? I might be interested in modding mine instead of splashing out on pacemakers if I can get at least a little benefit for minimal cash...

Cut them back as far as you can at the collector, and weld a bigger pipe in.

That's sort of what I thought you might be getting at. Would I then relocate the cat as far back as possible, i.e. just in front of where the 'cat back system' starts?

And might it be a good idea to get some big second hand cats, eg. VS V8 or V6 Magna which I'm told are pretty decent - since they each flow 160+ kw through one cat?

And if I did all this how many kilowatts might this free up? Or would it perhaps just let the engine rev out better?

Thanks again for your advice. Sorry for asking so many questions....
