give me a break, your telling us that "SuperExpensive" wouldnt ever have a recall because the stuff costs more?
im sure quite a few people on here have had to take their very expensive cars back to the dealers once or twice, for even serious issues like brakes and steering racks.... but just because theyre called "SuperCheap" they get bagged when they make a product recall... *i have no affiliation with SuperCheap Auto (just call me Steven Ellery ;) ) |

Nahh its good business, how many people after 2 or 3 years are gonna remember where they got there cheap jacks from anyway, by the time comes to recall it they have either turfed it or purchased another one, in which case super cheap as made even more money... They have some smart thinkers over there!!!!!!!!!!!

i dont usually buy anything from supercheap...unless its something that 'doesnt matter' so to speak. As far as tools and that sort of thing goes though, i steer clear!

Thanks for the heads up mate. My Dad has one of those and he uses it to jack up a 2200kg 4WD. Thank god he's smart enough to use axle stands.

I'm kinda wondering what prompted the recall ??????
These things have been selling at SUPERCHEAP for years. Maybe it was LB instead of KG that this unit was made for.

"ey like ohldenz !! ohldenz is ma fayvritt ones!!" that line from the Bush Mechanics show is etched somewhere in the depths of my twisted mind. I've got a .wav file of it somewhere, have saved it as default.wav on more than a few red army home PC's.

Nothing beats a big lump of timber thats twice the height of you body, no car is going to break through that should the stands fall. The tyres might hurt a bit though.

Thank God I have 24/7 access to a professional workshop and bus hoists!!
If it can hold 8 tonnes of bus 2 metres off the ground, it's not going to have a problem with the XD.

My car fell off the stands a couple of days ago with me under it. Luckily it's an EA at stock height, so although I was rather sore afterwards, I suffered no serious injuries. I must say, the sight of the car coming down over me is the scariest moment I have experienced.
By the way, we need better smilies on this forum. That's one thing FF got right. |

Sounds really serious Mike, I thought that was not possible.
I admit I have a 1800 kg Supercheap jack around here. I figured that if they conform to Australian standards as they claim, they should work for an occasional job. I was also considering a high quality secondhand jack, but who knows what kind of abuse it may have suffered? |

most of the time, jacks will let a car down slowly or they wont jack at all, it is either a shaft seal that could let go, or the ball that seats on the surface i.e when you twist the handle that may bypass due to scoring, but not that many jacks have actually colapsed instantly, actually i have never heard of any at all, even if the jack is rated to 1800kg, there is a saftey factor built in usually around 2 to 1.

after more tests were done... the jacks stated weight wasnt what it could really hold.... meaning it said 2,500kg but it can only hold about 2,000kg so yeh

Supercheap are rumoured to sponsor Greg Murphy now right? I suppose that follows suit that it/he has a lower rating than prevouisly stated. Its a buggar Greg Murphy isnt being recalled though back to Formula Holden or something.
