Bobthebilda hit the nail on the head really well.

I'm sorry I tried biting my tongue but you really grind my gears. Retail car sales from Japan to Australia represent a fraction of their total GDP. When Ireland's economy collapsed we didn't subsidize Guinness sales did we. All this proposal will do is the line the pockets of a lucky few by screwing people over. Its a cruddy proposal that shouldn't have been given the light of day.

A major supplier to the company I work for supplies numerous large automotive companies critical components. I was talking with Asia sales manager 12 months ago and he spoke about disaster planning in the supply chain. If Japanese car companies haven't followed that practice they have exposed themselves and shouldn't be molly cuddled by Australia.

Japan is still one of Australia's critical trading partners and I fully support any response which will ensure a flow on effect to Australia. Calling racism is a myopic opinion of opposition to this plan.

Yeah. I don't mind if Australia gives money to victims. But subsidies to Japanese car dealers? They sell other branded used car too... come on.
