Anyone seen this? It is rather hilarious. I think a lot of outsiders are misreading public sentiment in Australia, particular Victoria. I was following it last night, the responses were not very tame either.

I almost think this virus is a higher being testing us. Do we value money or our lives? Are we willing to work together as a society or ? Ok thats getting a bit philosophical.
Well I thought you would have been at work everyday for the last few weeks instead of sitting typing out your load of drivel this morning.Everybody is entitled to time off.If they go to footy or the pub or wherever that is their privilege!not as if he did something illegal

Has anyone? Getting through the short term is taking enough resources.

Seems to be a few approvals getting less red tape lately for mining, and you can bet infrastructure will get a boost aswell.

But, we dont even know what we are recovering from just yet, the next couple of months are going to get worse.

And just when you think youve heard it all......

Man, 30, dies after attending 'COVID party' and saying virus is a hoax

https://www.9news.com.au/world/coron...-party-_130720

Quote:
A 30-year-old US man has died from coronavirus after attending a "COVID party" to test whether the virus is a hoax.

The man attended the party with an infected person and later died in Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas, the hospital's Chief Medical Officer Dr Jane Appleby told the New York Times.

"I think I made a mistake. I thought this was a hoax, but it's not," the man told his nurse prior to dying, Dr Appleby said.

"COVID parties" are held to test whether coronavirus exists or to intentionally expose people to it, in an attempt to gain immunity.

The gatherings are "dangerous, irresponsible and potentially deadly," emergency physician at New York City's Lenox Hill Hospital, Dr Robert Glatter, told the Times.

I understand my drivel causes some angst but my drivel this time actually agrees with your view that he is entitled to time off. Just questioned the timing that is all. But okay.

Keep in mind the federal government is limited to what it can do - it can throw money around (or take it away), limit who comes into the country etc.

State governments are responsible for how they control COVID19 locally - they have more control over what happens within their borders.

Same with the bushfires - as much as you want to tilt at windmills doesn't matter if Scomo is in Hawaii or at the footy you don't have the CEO/GM of private enterprise turning the screwdriver.

Good leaders manage their team, they don't turn the screwdriver, you don't need Scomo in a fire truck or helping out at the drive through covid19 stations.

This was discussed on another forum and Twitter:

The no-name victim.
No medical history for the victim, for all we know 750lb weight, 60 cigarettes, 12 big mac's per day with BP of 240/180 along with a heredity cardiac condition and an undiagnosed brain aneurysm.
What did he actually die from? C19 of course.

BTW, Dr Jane Appleby is reporting something she overheard (a bit odd don't you think).

I wonder if it could possibly be Fake News?

Until there is a name, grieving fellow partygoers, and an autopsy, then this goes in the propaganda pile.

I agree with you man, but perception towards those whom you govern goes a long way towards it. You don't have to be holding the fire hose but it does help if you are seen to actually care at the time of the current disaster.

Scomo or whoever is entitled to have time off, I do agree with that though. But as others have said, 'timing' is of the essence.

The problem with some of you is you start with an embedded unassailable hatred of people, political parties etc, then you go looking for excused to vent that hatred.

It has nothing to do with anything rational.

As I've said before in a democracy you get the government you deserve, the politicians are just a reflection of society, so what is the real problem ?

Oh and Franko, must try harder. Try licking some of your neighbours...

Riddle me this...

A 55 year old male, who has a liver issue, and thus, a slightly lower than normal immunity level as a side effect. Healthy otherwise, works, still does sport, and lives life as any normal 55 year old male would.

Said male contracts COVID. And dies soon after.

What was the cause of his death?

COVID? Or other?

Not sure if you are referring to the bike rider or the cop.

Looked to me like the cop made his own decision on what the right thing to do is.

A quick look at where the Victorian cases have been located for both all identified cases and currently active ones.

Each of the two graphs includes (in red) those shires outside the GMA.

Hi everyone. Just wanted to leave a quick note, and hopefully it helps someone. I know we've had a lot of different perspective on CV19. But can I ask that we please please take this virus seriously. I will admit I have been one of those that was aware of the seriousness of CV19, but never thought it was serious enough to affect me or someone close.

Last night we received news that a primary school teacher of mine (back in grade 1 and 2) had contracted CV19. Yep, we still kept in touch after all these years, and I'm now 41. She moved to Madagascar to teach a number of years ago. Anyhow, she had been feeling unwell for about 10 days. She finally decided to see a doctor a couple of days ago, they didnt have enough room for her in hospital, so she was made to recover at home. It didn't sound that serious at first, she even sent some photos of herself recovering on the couch. Today, we had news she lost her battle. She had no known pre-existing conditions that could have taken her so quickly. She was in her 60s. It has come as a big shock. She only came to visit me in Melbourne 18 months ago.

So I leave you with this message. Please please take this thing seriously. If you feel unwell, don't wait, go get tested. Use masks. Keep your distance. And avoid crowded places where social distancing is not possible. Don't take any risks. This virus is REAL and it does KILL.

For those trying to have a chuckle through this, here's today's tragicomedy:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-07-...ayors/12452450

"An online tourism campaign that uses colourful language to urge people to stay away from regional Victoria has raised the ire of some of the regions its trying to promote."

"We did a first run of six [posters] and we got inundated. Literally every town has asked for one," Mr Wheeler said."

Had a good laugh at the Portland one...

If comorbidities were so significant, there should be very few excess deaths compared to previous years. Those people would be dying anyway.
I keep hearing/reading about people dying and the argument is whether they died of Covid, or some other pre existing condition. See post #4148 for example.

So I put forward a scenario of a 55 year old male with a pre existing condition, who contracted Covid. Then died.

What was the reason for his death? Curious as to peoples thoughts.
