Same story with Vic. Many of the cases can be traced back to fly in's, and particularly ones who think the rules don't apply or aren't comprehending the rules very well.
I totally agree. It's also part of the reason why Im so cynical about the procedures put in place. It's possible we may not no all the facts but it doesn't help with PR when you see infected people streaming off planes into Australia every day.

Why would they want to test before boarding, if they test positive it then becomes the departure country's problem.

Putting them on a plane gives the problem to someone else.

Generally because that would be the right thing to do, not the easy thing.

Surely if we found people positive and they were about to fly we wouldnt pop them in a plane and slap them on the bum?

I though it might be pertinent to have a look at how long it has been since various countries had their peak daily case numbers. To even out any reporting spikes, I've ignored data that is clearly an adjustment to totals or a catch-up. The figure in brackets is the current 3 day average.

Agreed. Lock the Melburnians in, and keep it away from here, so we can drop some of the unnecessary restrictions we have for areas which are pretty much corona virus free.

As if countries like India would care about 'doing the right thing'.

Of course they'll handball it to someone else down the line.

I think that they should look at locking down hotspots but allow regional Victoria to run business as usual, their cafes/pubs/restaurants business as usual.

Security on entry - people from within the region are allowed in, people from Melbourne and surrounding region refused entry.

That way regional VIC can start firing up where they have no cases.

We haven't had community transmission only imported cases, so no actual spike as such.

10 suburbs in Melbourne in lockdowm. Only four reasons to be out of your home (in brief):

1. Work
2. Care giving
3. Exercise
4. Food and essential supplies.

Booze bus style checks on major roads checking as to why people are leaving their suburb.

Postcodes where restrictions will apply:

3012
3021
3032
3038
3042
3046
3047
3055
3060
3064

Flights diverted from Melbourne

Mr Andrews said he would ask the Prime Minister to divert all flights away from Melbourne for the next two weeks.

"I will have conversations with other state leaders to explain that and to thank them in advance of the extra load that they will carry," he said.

"That is for the abundance of caution."

They should be quarantining them on Christmas Island for 2 weeks before letting them back into the country.

Just read that in a few Melb hotspots, 928 people refused to be tested when asked to take it.

I mean seriously.............talk about having no regard for the health and safety of others in the Community.

Ridiculous.

Should be fines and names sent to the Feds for extra attention at tax time when this is over.

Big nuts to lock down suburbs, that seals the deal for us going down. We were not going into those exact postcodes but close enough.

Christmas Island is a bust as far as been used for quarantining as they do not have the medical facilities to cope, the head of the Australian Medical Association Tony Bartone has already stated "Christmas Island lacks the facilities if someone should fall seriously ill", i've been there on a number of occasions and they definitely wouldn't cope.....

Depends how you measure it but from when it almost stopped until it properly restarted was 38 days or 22 days from the last reported case to the next one.

Plane loads of dual citizens left India ...better health care in Aus

Dual citizenship is a scam and should not be valid in this crisis.

Queensland borders to reopen but remain closed to Victoria due to the state's coronavirus spike

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-06-...toria/12397720

Quote:
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has announced borders will reopen from July 10 to visitors from all states and territories other than Victoria.

Anyone who has travelled from Victoria and enters Queensland from this Friday, including Queenslanders, will have to quarantine at their own expense for 14 days.

If there are further outbreaks of community transmission elsewhere, Ms Palaszczuk said the State Government might review its decision.

She said the Government was also bringing forward "some aspects" of stage three easing of restrictions.

From Friday, 100 people will be permitted to gather in homes and at weddings.

The Premier urged Queenslanders to think carefully about travel plans.

"Please do not go to Victoria," Ms Palaszczuk said.

"We cannot risk removing our border restrictions for those people coming from areas in Victoria right now."

Ms Palaszczuk said anyone entering Queensland from midday this Friday would be required to fill in an online declaration stating they had not been in Victoria in the past fortnight.

From that date, anyone who has been in Victoria would be required to pay for their own two weeks of quarantine in a hotel that the Government would assign them.

Ms Palaszczuk said anyone found to have made a false declaration on Victoria would be liable for a $4,000 fine.

"We cannot risk removing our border restrictions for those people coming from areas in Victoria right now," Ms Palaszczuk said.

"To do so would jeopardise everything we have all sacrificed so much to achieve and could be catastrophic to our entire economy."

'There's no interstate rivalry here'
Queensland's borders have been closed since late March.

Business and tourism groups had been lobbying the State Government for an easing of restrictions to help the state's financial recovery.

The border reopening has come with Queensland recording no new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours.

Victoria has recorded another 64 cases of coronavirus overnight, the 14th consecutive day of double-digit case growth in the state.

Queensland Health Minister Steven Miles voiced concern about the level of community transmission of COVID-19 in Victoria.

"They have 288 active cases right now," he said.

"I want to emphasise that there is no interstate rivalry here — it's up to all of us to stem the outbreak.

Mr Miles said Queensland had sent its deputy chief health officer to Victoria to assist in the state's efforts to stem the recent surge, and had called for 40 expressions of interest from nurses so they could be deployed there.

Police Deputy Commissioner Steve Gollschewski said people could expect to see a heavier police presence at border checkpoints, along with personnel from the Australian Defence Force.

"The work that we need to do to make sure this system works effectively is already underway," Deputy Commissioner Gollschewski said.

"It will make things run smoothly if people undertake to understand what's required of them before they travel.

"It really comes down to one key issue, which is don't go to or come from Victoria [to Queensland]."

Easing of restrictions fast-tracked
Ms Palaszczuk also announced an accelerated easing of restrictions across Queensland from this Friday, a week earlier than planned.

"Churches and places of worship — I know how important this is — families will be able to sit together as well," Ms Palaszczuk said.

From this Friday, the four-square-metre-per-person rule will be applied to businesses, cafes, restaurants, RSLs, museums, art galleries, libraries and historic sites.

The eased restrictions will allow:

Up to 100 people at funerals, wedding ceremonies and receptions and private gatherings in homes

Nightclubs, casinos, gaming and gambling venues and food courts to reopen
Contact community sport, both indoor and outdoor, to resume with an approved COVID-safe plan

Events with more than 10,000 people with a COVID Safe Event Plan approved by the Chief Health Officer

Up to 25,000 spectators or 50 per cent capacity at Queensland's major sporting facilities

Up to 50 per cent of capacity at concert venues, theatres and auditoriums, or one person per four square metres

Office workers to return to their place of work

Well back in the day if it was just the wife and I then yeah, I could think of a few things to do during lock down

With the kids now it would be hard even in a hotel, but hey, some people went to war so it could be worse.

Big nuts to lock down suburbs, that seals the deal for us going down. We were not going into those exact postcodes but close enough.
Yeah I don't know what the answer is but to think so many won't take the test is truly baffling to me.

I'd certainly like to think harsh(er) measures will be implemented if Melb/Vics position does not improve rapidly.

I work in one of those lockdown suburbs, they're talking about police pulling people over to ask where they're going and having booze bus style checkpoints on major roads in those suburbs.

Well that'll keep the commute interesting

They don't want to take the test because they know they have it.

But you do have the ocassional wacko who won't accept a blood transfusion if one of their kids is bleeding out on a hospital bed...

Yeah maybe you are right.

I think fear of having it certainly impacts the decision but for mine it's unacceptable.

It's not about you (not you Zilo) as a person being responsible and accountable to the Community.
