With most small Fords using Weber carburetors I thought it might be useful to start a thread to gather some information resources in relation to these carbs.
Your contribution and experiences are welcome. Tuning and repair of Webers is a skilled but dying art, however it is within the capabilities of the DIY mechanic and the results can be quite rewarding. Standard disclaimer though, do your research, make up your own mind and consult a professional if you can't apply either of these steps.

Weber types
Firstly a couple of definitions. Venturi- opening for air inlet. Dual stage- Venturi's opening at different times in the throttle phase. Single stage- Venturi's opening in unison. Downdraught- Air drawn in vertically. Sidedraught- Air drawn in horizontally. Weber DCD Type- Dual stage Downdraught Venturi size- 28/36 Found on- Mk1 Cortina GT 'Kent' 1500cc Weber DGV Type- Dual stage Downdraught Venturi size- 32/36 Found on- Mk2 Cortina GT, Mk2 Escort 'Kent' 1600cc Weber DGAV Type- Dual stage Downdraught Venturi size- 32/36 Found on- Cortina Escort 'Pinto' 2000cc Weber DGAS Type- Single stage Downdraught Venturi size- 38/38 Found on- Capri 'Essex' 3000cc *Will also fit DGAV manifold Weber IDF Type- Single stage Downdraught Venturi size- 44/44 Found on- Euro spec Mk2 Escort Group 1 option Weber DCOE Type- Single stage Sidedraught Venturi size- 40/40, 45/45 Found on- Aftermarket fittment

Love the weber carb. I usually used IDA and IDF on rotaries but on a spare mazda 808 with a 1600 piston engine I played around with fitting a 32/36 dgv.
Webers are simple to set up (I shudder at holleys and other similar 4 barrels used on V8s or SUs and the like -can't know everything, pick one). The simple brass idle, air, fuel jets and emulsion tubes of webers and their circuits I learnt quick enough. I did muck around a bit on the 4 barrels rotaries used (hitachi and nikki), but too hard to mod - get a weber instead. the Mk GT cortina had a 32dfm carby
the essex started with 40 down draft later went to a 38. Haynes put out a manual for the weber carbs |

A small correction, the DFAV 40 was used on all Australian assembled Capri GT V6 3-litre models, through to November, 1972, when assembly ceased. The DGAS was used on UK built V6 Capri's from late 1971, but not in Australia, except on the 50 fully imported RS3100s.

Both my cars are uk built the crayford corsair has the DFAV
and my Scimitar has the DGAS out the 2 i do prefer the 38 but in saying that one is oval port and the other is a d port and they are built differently spec wise and they are like chalk and cheese on how they perform |

Very familiar with the Webers, did a few conversions on unsuspecting cars over the years
Most notable was a DGAV 32/36 on a 1980 Subaru Leone 1600, replaced the asthmatic Nikki carb...needed an adaptor plate to fit, had it dyno tuned and distributor recurved, geez did that wake the Suby up. Used to blow away 253 HQ's with ease
