Default Shame on you V8 supercars Darwin

Firstly a big thanks to the lame hotel quarantine system.

Another outbreak in Melbourne...courtesy of Adelaide

So Victorians are disease infested again.

4 flights cancelled...with $60 penalty each...thanks Jetstar you azz wipes.

A big vertical finger to the V8 Supercar organizers in Darwin for not giving grand stand ticket refunds...( 4 x $750) won't be doing that gig again.

Thumbs up to Novotel, Hertz and ...(and believe it or not Qantas)...for facilitating smooth Covid refunds.

Shame on you Merlin-Darwin Supercars...never again.

Seems very expensive for a grandstand seat but it's a lot of money to lose. I'm hoping I can get to Winton on the weekend but who knows what will happen by then.

I can understand your frustration, but you should have been aware of the refund policy before you purchased the tickets, especially given the volatility of interstate travel in the country at the moment. I heard someone on tv say that there has been travel restrictions put in place somewhere across the country on average every twelve days (not sure over what period).

And to be fair to those agencies, there are no current travel restrictions in place for the start of June at this point in time, that I'm aware of? If your flights are direct, ie not through Victoria, there's nothing stopping you (apart from personal choice) from going, is there?

It is still a lot of coin to miss out on. But your health and well-being are worth more than a few $$$ down the drain, I would have thought?

Well that's a good way to do it , I suspect you won't be alone in your trouble there is bound to be more fans , not necessarily on this forum ,in the same boat. I was lucky enough to be invited to Sandown by a Ford hero and his sponsor and it was my first time at a track since Adelaide 2020, Winton, if we are allowed to go will be my second.
Covid is just making sports fans think twice about organising anything , be it in or interstate.

I can not believe the SA govt cancelled and sabotaged the Supercars in Adelaide. I went to every one....it was very well organised.

I suspect some politicians undermined it, as well as the Adelaide Grand Prix.

Heard they sold off the grandstand infrastructure etc really cheap so that in a change of govt it would be difficult to bring the event back.

SA really needs a change of govt.

So, none of those organisations that wouldn't provide you with a full refund had any publicly available refund policy? I find that hard to believe.

Regardless if they did or didn't.
Saying we won't provide a refund for xyz in a refund policy is just crap.

It's rubbish that companies can take peoples money and not provide refunds if the service isnt provided.

If you paid by Credit Card I’d contact the Credit Card provider and say you didn’t receive the service you paid for.

Then see what happens.

There is a difference between not providing a service and a service being cancelled by the purchaser late in the piece. Huge investments made to cater for bookings need to be protected from late cancels.

Not sure if that applies in this case.

Jetstar has been hugely accommodating with me with about half a dozen cancellations. It does involve a voucher for later travel, but I have not lost a dollar yet in any penalties. But if you buy the cheap non flex ticket, then want your money back when there is no travel advice between to two points, well its buyer beware.

I'm on the fence a bit with this one.

As a consumer, I'd like to be able to get a full refund no what matter what reason I decide not to take the services for or how soon to the event I decide not to use the service.

But I also understand that a business, as tweeked has pointed out nicely, has costs associated with initially providing me with the booking and then with me not taking up that service. And that impost is greater the closer to the event taking place. What is fair and reasonable in that circumstance is the hard bit to determine.

At the end of the day, we all have a choice as a consumer to either use, or not use, a service. If the refund policy is not appropriate for us, then we have the ability to choose to not use that business for that service. No one is forcing us to do so. If enough consumers are concerned by the refund policy, then the business will struggle to get enough custom. We need to talk with our feet.

It looks like Winton has been cancelled, so I wonder if the same thing will happen, although Winton is promoted by Winton not Supercars - going to be run at Winton later on this year apparently

The release on the Supercars site states that ticket holders can get a full refund or transfer their tickets to the deferred dates.

Yeah that's kool.
Wonder if insurance could cover this, probably a tall order seen as they often can't cover consumers cars properly

Sorry I should have been clearer.
I meant supcars insurance covering some costs in the event of none event unless they have the same kind of covid clause

I'm not sure that you'll have success with this path. In this case, the non-refunded component is not to cover the original service that was purchased, rather the fee is to cover the costs of the 'service' of administering the booking, subsequent cancellation and re-advertising the now available spot to others.

But it can't do any harm to try.

Problem in this case is that the Darwin event hasn't actually been cancelled. The Winton event has been and from what I understand ticket holders were offered a full refund. But I wouldn't imagine that any insurance Supercars, or any other agency, had/have would cover someone coming from interstate not being able to attend because of border closures etc. Or making a personal decision not to attend because they consider the risk too high or it has become inconvenient for them to attend.

These things are often way more complicated than what they initially appear on the surface.

I just want to make it clear that I empathise with zilo because of the amount of money he is out of pocket after having to cancel.

Has been happening a lot since Covid started with many businesses refusing refunds, I got screwed over for a holiday in Tassie in February with the last lockdown.
Some businesses do offer credit (not refunds) for rebooking at other times.
Cheers.

We had a similar experience when they called off Nitro circus in Perth (pre covid)
Banks are all talk with chargeback options, they couldn't care less, the transaction is completed on they're end. They just fobbed us off.
Same with Fair trading, toothless tiger.
If they are a member of Live performance Australia (LPA) you could try there but we couldn't find a contact method other than a PO box.
By that point we just bent over and copped it sweet as the time to potential reward ratio was becoming to great.

Really good news...I complained on their Facebook page and as of this afternoon I got this message...

Hi Jock, apologies again for the delayed response! I have confirmed we will be offering refunds to those who are unable to make it due to COVID-19 hot spots and travel restrictions over Supercars weekend. You can currently apply for a refund, and they will be processed following the event.

Well...how good is that?

My faith is restored (well...assuming we get the money)

Just to follow up on this sookey thread of mine.

Last week we did in deed get the last of our refund moneys from Ticketek.
Qantas was 3 weeks ago.
Novotel Hotel was instant.

So all good I guess....and lessons learnt.
