Pretty sure that was Jon Smiths car, former owner of BEP spares and Bankstown Electro Platers.

A big buyer when Leyland Australia closed up and sent everything to auction.

Made his money selling Mini parts to the Japanese market.

1974 Leyland Force 7 V
Closes: 1d 4h 34m
$65,409
which the thermometer says is no where near reserve

I would rather spend $250k on this than the $1mill plus for brockies blue meanie

Different owners. The Force7 (owned by the P76 station wagon owner) will go to the National Museum of Australia when he passes on.

I recognise the rarity of this car but man, the Fords Holdens and Chryslers from the same era weren't hit with the ugly stick like this thing.

The faded bumpers, light surrounds and grill don't help.
If you look at other pictures of a Force 7 with bumpers etc being a nice deep black makes a big difference.
The front looks very American similar in concept to a 1972 Gran Torino.

That is a lot of brass for an engineering one-of-seven off. Of course, each to their own.

I think the problem with investing in it is that it is not a very liquid asset. One would have to wait for the right buyer or sell at a significant loss.

I quite like the look of the car. Shame that it didn't make it to the market.

Agree, in 1974 there was the XB Falcon and HQ Holden, both look pretty sharp these days with a good set of wide rims.

But no rims can fix this Leyland.

It is worth noting 1974 was the era of the Mustang II where some examples have been beaten pretty bad by the Stick

There is a Targa Florio 4.4 V8 at one of the auctions atm. Advertised as "rarer than a XY GTHO, with only 448 made". Uh, they only made 250 XY GTHO's

And if his point is that there are fewer of them left than surviving GTHO's, that's because no one really cares that much about saving them.

The sedan at least had some proportion. These were designed on drugs.

I'd rather spend $250k on an XC Cobra or a HQ GTS 350 2-door.

The Force7 has some very challenging design choices! The sedan is much nicer. I own a 74 P76 and a 74 XB, both 4spd V8's. The P76 is a far better car to drive.

Side on pictures distort a view but it looks like there is a reasonable amount of room in the engine bay to change spark plugs etc.

I don’t want to be flamed, but I’ve always seen a fair bit of (inspiration?.) from the Lamborghini Uracco.
I know they missed, but it’s a different package.

Saw a Datsun 120Y coupe on the road yesterday, and thought god that is ugly compared to the sedan.

incidentally 1974 also.

Was there a fad for coupes back then? some go it right some horribly wrong

Front end is a bit like the Aston Martin Vantage of the mid 70's. My old man had a P76, It was very fast, much quicker than my 253 Holden and the best part you could carry a 44 gallon drum in the boot with room for a couple of suit cases.
