Been wanting to play with shares for a while, took the plunge yesterday. Made $740 net profit in a single day. Now's the time to buy I think. My biggest movers are APT, CCP, GTK, SGR - All jumped 20%+ in the past 24 hours

I haven't cashed in, if that's what you mean. I'm up to $1500+ profit this morning, not a bad 36 hours so far.

There has been good gains in the last 3 days but it only takes one bit of bad news to wipe those gains. Don't think we have reached the bottom yet.........

Well done. I'm not checking my fund every day but have seen $1500 and $900 gains in a single day. The markets are looking to the future, they realise the hype has been overcooked.

I think we are happy to just play it out a bit. If things escalate then I cant see it getting better, we are looking more medium term.

Just a thought. The over 60 seem to be the most effected by this virus. That being the case, why doesn't the federal government make it a policy that every person over 60 MUST self isolate immediately?? Wouldn't that make more sense than shutting the entire country down? Keep the elderly at home, and the 59 and under population still go to work - where possible??
Yes, there are plenty of 60+ still in the workforce. More than likely, in an higher position of employment (Supervisor, Manager, CEO, Admin, Executive, etc, etc) than the average younger person. But most of those jobs surely can be done by working from home?? There are also plenty of 60+ in other employment, but they will also have to bear the burden just as the plenty of young casuals (15-25) who have now lost their jobs. The difference being the 60+ would be in a much better place financially. I would also think, asking the 60+ to isolate, would help with the infection rate, and consequently help with the control of the situation in hospitals. Thoughts?? |

Thanks. What does the graph look like for the death age range? In Australia? And around the world?
edit: Cannot find any data for Australia. But the graphs below are figures from Italy and China. (taken from the Sydney Morning Herald 26th March) https://www.smh.com.au/national/what...23-p54cy7.html Last edited by Tickford.; 27-03-2020 at 06:36 PM. |

We know that the elderly are overwhelmingly the most effected or die. The time to rule by exception is looking like a long time ago now. The younger people are they are obviously more likely to be infected and spread than the elderly. That is no surprise at all.

What is a good platform for beginners in shares? Also in addition to that what is one for someone who wants to invest in startups?

Remember deaths are final. They're easy to deal with, doesn't take anyone to look after them.
It's the sick which is a burden. I can't find anything recent, but even two weeks ago italy had 13000 patients hospitalized with corona and 2000 critical.

Anyone gone for the medical weed shares? I made a couple thousand bucks from these a few years ago, they're junk stocks worth literal cents and they've crashed heaps in the COVID-19 saga.
Last time it was MXC where I bought in at .04 and sold at .11 This time they've applied for a trading halt, this time I've put a few hundred bucks each into AC8 and CAN. COVID-19 may have taken my beloved Crown Casino from me but there's still weed shares on the ASX |

I'm with Nabtrade, & they're got a minimum Buy of $500. I'd probably have a crack at some of those penny dreadfuls If I could buy small ($2-300) parcels.. |

I've bought some weed shares. Even though it's $500 minimum, some purchases you only buy $200 worth due to the insane volumes you buy (I've got 100,000 shares in FGO, went up from 0.001 to 0.002 this morning, score!)
My weeds: SP3, CM8, LNU, MEB, BCT, 4DS, BLG, BRN. Most are medical or AI related, hoping one will make me a millionaire down the track or become the next intel / Microsoft!
