Hi

I am 15 and my dad purchased a V4 capri last year. It is a real GT and apparently and we have heard that there we only 3 imported to australia. Can you confirm this?

Thanks

There wasn't many V4 Capris imported into Australia. Info is a bit sketchy but from what I've been told most were imported to NZ and a few ended up in oz. There used to be a green one with a vinyl roof that used to get about my place (SE Melb) about 10 years ago. Was owned by a "blue coat" from VFL Park....That'll tell you how long ago it was.
The V4 was basically a V6 with 2 pots chopped off. The good thing about them was that they used to 2000E gearbox from a Corsair so you can bolt on a sierra 5 speed....Or you can sell the bell-housing to me and I'll bolt one up to my V6. :Reverend:
Many didn't survive as the pinto was quicker and more reliable, so the common upgrade was to ditch it in favour of a V6 or 2lt Pinto. The V4 also came out in the Mk 1 Transits (as stated above) but had different exhaust manifolds and reverse sump.
I can put you onto a guy here in Melbourne who can give you some more info on the V4 models.
Cheers Glenn

Thanks everyone

I am not sure if it was a private import or not but it is a great car. Sadlu it is an automatic but we have a spare gear box from a 1600 escort. Do you know if it can be put in to the capri??? It has minilites on it and has An average paint job. It was resprayed but put into storage and it has a few scratches on it.

Thanks guys

The bell-housings for the V4s are very hard to find, so you might have trouble bolting on that 1600 box. Us V6 Capri guys like to pinch them along with the diff centres.

Thanks

We were suprised when we found out when it had only travelled 100 km's after its rebuilt. And the guy across the road rebuilt the motor and told us that the pistons cost $120 each. It looks stunning. I will put a few pics up soon.

...I'd love to put a V4 in my van, but finding one would be a struggle. Can't wait to see the pics.

I will post some pics up at home. There is a Ford Perana on ebay it is up to 26,000. It is a bloody nice car. At the end of this year we might be selling it and buying a mk1 2door escort club car. How much do you think it would be worth? we have no idea.

Thanks

The value is only as much as someone is prepared to pay at the time. The rarity of the V4 might attract a lot of interest, but a real Capri enthusiast is only going to pay top dollar for a really nice V6, RS3100 or a Perana. We were only talking about this last night at the Capri Club, you only aspire to the best model in the range, so $13,000 for 1600 XL (like in Unique Cars recently) is just a pipe dream. If you decide to sell your V4, think of a price you'd be comfortable with and stick to it. Its a rare car and will be worth more than any escort club car in the long run.

We won't be selling it for a while but we will have to sit down and have a good long talk about it. The only problem is that it isn't registered but hopefully it will be soon. We have no idea what it would be worth, 5,000, or maybe even 10,000. We will have a talk about it soon.

Thanks again

You might struggle to get $10,000 but if its in top condition I'm sure its worth at least $5000. Good 1600 GTs are fetching that figure now, so it wouldn't be unreasonable to ask something along those lines.

thanks a lot for guiding us because we had absolutely no idea, It has a few scratches on it but it has got minilites new tires completely rebuilt engine. Its a nice car. It would be good building a race car up of a v6 or a 1600. Great looking cars.

Compared to a Pinto the V4 is a bit of a novelty. It would look nice in a Mk 1 Escort engine bay but they are mega rare and a worked pinto would blow the doors off it anyway. They sound nice though.
