Does anyone else here feel that after reading the book, and seeing the trailer to the film, that Tom Hanks isn't really the person you pictured to be playing the lead role?

I agree.
Not too sure who would have suited the role though. Maybe Tim Robbins? And I think Silas doesn't look as albino as I imagined when I was reading it. Can't wait until it comes out though, just hope it is a good adaptation. |

Hmmm I don't think they should've made a movie, as much as I want to see one. Nothing beats your good ol' imagination.
By the way, a few people have recommended the (prequel?) Angels and Demons. I've heard it's even better.

I was blown away by the books- thoroughly enjoyed both of them! What made it really special for me was that Rosslyn Chapel (where the story culminates) was a favourite hangout for a whole bunch of us when I lived back in Edinburgh.
Just down the road is where Dolly the cloned sheep was born but just in front of the chapel is a valley (vey small one) known as the Hidden Valley. This is due to the fact that the lay of the land is fairly flat-many valleys have hills or mountains on either side so its fairly obvious that the valley is there. Due to the level topography, it is difficult to see this one. About 100m to the right of the chapel is a path that heads down the steep valley side and off it is a tiny path that if followed carefully, leads to a cave in the cliff-face that several famous Scottich warriors reputably hid in at some time. The entrance is almost square like a door. We used to camp in here when we were a bit feral (hippies!)  py: At the foot of the cliff, slightly to the right of it, you can pull back the undergrowth at the foot of the rocks and find celtic carvins of a fish and a curled up snake. These predate the normal familiar celtic carvings by thousands of years. Hardly anyone knows that these exist, they certainly wont appear on any Rosslyn Glen information site! I'm not worried about telling folk on a public forum as they are very difficult to find unless you know where to look, but I thought that it might be interesting! In the chapel are some shallow relief carvings depicting various things including pineapples, which is very interesting as they were made so lon before anyone there had pineapples! I suppose they must've seen them on the Crusades...? There are loads of strange things in this tiny valley, such as the "green man." Most countries have stories of green men in their folklore and in the valley, viewed from the opposite side from the chapel is a waterfall and at the right time in summer, it looks just like an enormous mans face, green from all the moss and vines. It looks to damn symetrical to be a purely natural rock formation. Sorry, this is probably very boring but it is a very special place, and the history is so rich, I feel privilaged to have ben born into it. If you ever get the chance, pay it a visit, its a lovely country.

Digital Fortress is another of Dan Brown's novels which is a great read.
To answer the initial question I don't think Tom Hanks is the right choice. Sean Penn would have been my choice. Also who has read any of Lee Child's Jack Reacher novels - If not I highly reccomened them. |

Read the book not too long back, first book I've read in ages and I was very impressed. The movie I'm actually looking forward to seeing as its the first time I've read a book only to see the movie later on.
I can't really picture anyone as a lead. Only saw the trailer last night and its not very clear, I just remember seeing key elements that I could relate too. |

If you want even more information read "Holy Blood Holy Grail". It was written in the late 80's. It is a must read. Also read "The woman with the Alabaster Jar". Both have really great insight into this Holy Grail. For your information. Holy Blood Holy Grail is where Dan Brown ot his information from and is now being sued by the authors.

The sad thing about all this is that this has influenced so many people and a whole new mini-economy and belief has been generated.
It's worrying how easily people are manipulated. Back on topic though, the film looks ok and should be quite enjoyable, when taken for what it is... |

JEM: that's probably because of how easy it is to believe what this book proclaims over the the stories we are used to.
(IE: that Jesus was still a great man, alas, still a mortal, and not some kind of God etc.)

A little religion goes a long way with me, but it was an interesting enough book... The idea that Jesus was just a good, ordinary bloke (like myself) gives some cred to the Bible, I think...
