Can some one help out with the instructions / tools needed to create a avatar gif ( one that flashes several images ) any help would be appreciated.

The easiest way would be to make a flash animation and then export to gif when you're happy with it.
... or just give them to racecraft ;) |

or ... download a trial of Gif Animator, i think ulead make it

There's a site on the internet that lets you make it online! Can't remember it off the top of my head but Google it and you should be able to find it.
