Thumbs up Escort Registration?

I have an Escort MK2 with no registration documents. I bought it in the UK as an Australian export. It is a white 2dr 2.0 GL auto. The car is no longer registered, I have tried to trace its former registration details but unable to get anywhere. Does anyone know which state AERZR would have been registered in or knew of the car. I need to these details to confirm specifications for the DVLA in the UK, so I can get it on the road. Any info welcomed

Does it still have a registration sticker on the windscreen? Picture?

These are only being phased out in the last year or two, depending on the state registered. Each state does their own thing.

Re vehicle specifications, the details are/should be on the compliance plate originally attached by Ford Australia.
Codes easy enough the decode e.g. http://www.rsmotorsport.com.au/ford_...scortmkii.html

Thanks for the reply, There are no stickers on it at all. But AERZR etched in the glass. The DVLA in the Uk won't accept that I am telling them that the compliance plate states it was built in march 1980. I have emailed Ford Australia, but like everyone else they are wanting a previous registration document. as proof I own the car.

rego documents are not proof of ownership, in Australia at least

do you have a purchase receipt for the car?

the number etched into the glass won't be a rego number it'll be a code.
This was a short lived idea done years ago as an anti theft measure to help trace stolen car parts and thereby supposedly reduce car theft.

I'd bet that the company that did it isn't in business anymore otherwise you could potentially trace the rego through them.

I purchased the car on Ebay in the Uk, I bought it from a guy who bought 6 escorts and shipped them over to the UK. It has cleared through customs so I presumed everything would be ok. The only receipt I have is the one from Ebay. I have asked the seller about its registration documents and he said that it is a different system to what we have in the Uk. As we call it the V5 Log book, this is filled in by the seller and buyer keeps a section for proof of ownership this is sent off to the DVLA for processing. Once it comes back, the new owners details will be added, it stays like this until the car is sold or scrapped. There is no annual renewal.

I have now just been emailed the vehicle details from "Ford Australia* confirming the spec that I have checked from its VIN plates. Hopefully now the DVLA in the UK will accept this from Ford and allow the car be given an age related registration plate, not a kit car Q plate. Thanks to all who contributed

I have registered a car in Australia on the basis on a sales receipt quoting the VIN.
It had been out of rego for 20+yrs, and whilst I could proviode the previous rego number, that had dropped off the computer system (ha ha !! Too old since last rego'd).

So with your Ford Oz specs, and a some kind of signed sales receipt from the UK seller, surely you will be fine.

As for period plates Vs Q-reg, whatever your local rules state will probably apply. From what I've read in UK magazines, if the rego/V5 trail is broken (never existed in your case), you're probably out of luck.
