Default 2004 WP Fiesta Battery

Hey all

In the next week or so before i go away, im gonna replace the battery in my car, as its original (2004) and the starter motor is starting to get real slow.

So im looking for recommendations into battery brands that you have used in your WP's (and WQs?)

May ask ford how much they will charge, or go to NRMA but first want to see what you all recommend.

thanks
fiestaz

You can only use a Silver Calcium battery in the Fez. The old style Lead Acid battery cann't handle the charging system. Not much change from $190 for a Fez battery.
From www.boschautoparts.co.uk/pcBatt12.asp?c=2&d=1

In a recent Technical Service Bulletin from Ford (who have been using Calcium Silver since 1997 as OE), they have stated that due to the Smart Changing System (SCS) fitted to its vehicles ONLY Calcium Silver batteries can be used.

Fitting anything other than Calcium Silver could result in a severely shortened service life, increased warranty claims and could even cause explosions.

The following Ford models must ONLY be fitted with Calcium Silver batteries as stipulated by Ford Motor Company Ltd.

Model..... From
Mondeo.. June '98
Cougar.. June '98
Puma.... January '99
Transit. January '99
Escort.. January '99
Fiesta.. January '99
Ka....... January '99
Foc...... January '99
Fusion.. September '02

alright awesome thanks for the info , NRMA is coming right now to install a battery for us. i believe it will have a 2 year warranty but hopefully wont have any problems.

this thread could still be used as a reference for WP-WQ fiesta owners though.

OK so from the one start the new battery has done, have to say im very impressed lol..

the old battery was starting the car ok (possible cause of a stalling issue, yet to confirm) but apparently it had voltage, but wasnt holding its amps (maybe haha) and therefore needed replacing.

the car started up so well, starter motor sounded like it should, now feel more comfortable about going away and not having to think about it let alone think whether it will go everytime i go out.

You did well to get 6 years out of a battery. My Fez's battery is 3 years old..seems to be okay. What was the cost??
Have a good and safe trip..

yeh was a good run. we are 90% sure it was original. we have had the car for just over a year, and to me the battery looked original.

the nrma guy said that batterys either go instantly without warning or have a slow and painful death. mine was having a slow and painful death, it would have a very slow crank, followed by usually a stall which after hearing this new battery start the car, the stalling should stop happening.

cost was $160, free installation and check of the charging system as i am a member. so not too bad. Ford wanted $175 odd for it, which probably wouldn't include installation or a 2 year warranty.

thanks, should be good fun trip down the coast with mates

I work for NRMA. I am not in sales so I'm not trying to sell the brand but the batteries are pretty good. I have an 06' WQ and still on the original battery. Some original batteries are known to survive up to 8 years. When replaced they do not last that long though.

When my Motorcraft one went, Ford offered to replace it for around $200 dollars. I said "No thanks". Then went and got a Super Charge Gold through a mate for around $70 Dollars. Didn't know at the time that the batteries needed to be Calcium batteries. But ended up snaging a winner without knowing. Even got a 36 month warrenty as well.
