Default License renewal on-line

In this morning's mail I got a nice letter from QLD Transport telling me I have to renew my license.

I had actually checked not long ago but in previous times have only noticed AFTER it had expired which could have ended in tears.

Now we have on-line license renewal.

Just a few click and a credit card instead of the 2 hour wait at Transport.

AND it was at the $75 for 5 years rate.

After all the nasty things I have said previously all I can say is "Good one Anna"

You keep your old license. They give you a sticker for the back of your license with the new expiration date.

I should have known. Good ol' Captain Bligh gets it half right.

I kinda thought you would have needed a webcam, or a passport photo signed by a JP sent in.

Yeah, might of been a fair bit earlier then then even, that's just when mine was last due. Definitely beats lining up at QT. Doesn't appear to be any limit on how many times you could do it either, be interesting to have 20 or 30 year old photo down the track.

Wow, thats a lot better than Victoria, wait 2 hours in VicRoads, pay the money, then have them tell you they wont give you the license on spot anymore because of security issues and that its coming in the mail.

1 week later (if Australia post doesn't lose it) it arrives in the mail.

Because your drivers license is much safer floating around the mailbox.

In WA we can do it online, if you don't need a new photo (photos valid for 10 years).

If you do need a photo you can get it taken at any one of 30+ Australia Posts in the Metro area that have the facility to do so, so no real queuing.

Cool QT Licence on line

I was a bit concerned how they would get around the photo
so I went to Redbank plaza QT and they told me I could have done
it without a photo on line
Anyway Im here now lets do it
and the 25 year old gave me a compliment
and said I didnt need a photo taken
she must have thought I still looked 57 not 63
thanks John

They did away with it completely in QLD but bought it back for some things I believe. Renewals don't require it.

5 Years in SA is $150 (not taking the recent state budget hike into account)

Has a 10 year photo limit so only 1 online renewal
Also not available if you need medical certificate, or are on P's etc

New smart licenses will be issued soon so I guess we will all have to go in and get one of these as well.
