Great to see this happening. George Miller is one of the best directors out there, certainly one of the best to come from this country (baz who....pftt...). I recently got some copies of the originals in DVD quality and was surprised again with how engrossing they were. I loved the second one in particular.

It's always great to see a true aussie film in production....its a shame there aren't more, particularly on this scale.

Not sure if any one else on here are fans (for the younger generation....) but the Tomorrow Series books by John Marsden (originally teen fiction but all ages read them) are being made into a movie series. The first movie is in production right now in Northern rural NSW..... Two fully australian stories made here by australians. And both action movies too....gotta love it!!!

I hope this won't be a prequel, with someone playing a young Max driving around in the coupe.

In the movie the car was built as a one-off to entice Max not to quit the force, and hadn't seen the car before......so I hope they don't screw with the original storyline.

I'm no expert and i hope I won't be proven wrong, but I think with the original directoir doing the film I don;t think he's going to screw with it to much and make a dodgy Mad Max, It seems as if he has his heart in it and wants to make something special, which hopefullly will be a good thing

+3 for Eric Bana as the lead but press leaks seem to suggest Sam Worthington will get the role. Also a good choice IMHO.

If the interceptor is back (yah) it would make most sense that this film is Mad Max 1.5. There is a huge gap in the storyline between the original (decaying society) Mad Max and the second (post apocolyptic) Mad Max 2.

Having just returned from an outback roadtrip to Broken Hill/Silverton with all the MM2 memorabilia I say bring it on

A few holiday snaps attached ;)

If it is a prequel he would have to be driving a XM 2door " check this out Max its got a 144ci pursuit motor with triple su's under the bonnet "

Seriously though I hope they don't go down that path, just bring Max out of retirement to chase down Aus biggest crook (Mr Rudd)

Definitely agree with that, and it would be great if Eric Bana played Max, can't see it though. Whatever happens hopefully it's like the first two, not the third...

George said that the cars are sort of "cobbled together from the wrecks of the past." To me this means, after seeing the XB Falcon, wrecks from the first Mad Max or Mad Max 2. It won't be before the first Mad Max because Mel was only 21 when he did that, and he would not even be a cop if it was before then.

Looks like it should be fun.

-1 for Bana, top bloke and all but I think Sam Worthington is perfect for the role.

In terms of production design doesnt *have to* stay with 70s cars that were meant to be noughties (?) cars, but I guess alot of old fans might be upset seeing Max in an FG.

Id like to see a wrecked EA in there somewhere though. lol

Default MAD MAX 4 - Confirmed for Filming in OZ

http://www.premier.nsw.gov.au/Newsro...es_to_NSW.html

Fury Road - latest Mad Max blockbuster comes to NSW
24 October 2009

Premier Nathan Rees announced today that NSW had secured production of Fury Road, a Mad Max film, giving a massive boost to the local film industry and the economy.

“The Mad Max films are iconic and the latest instalment - Fury Road will be made right here in NSW,” said Mr Rees.

“In the hands of director George Miller, we will see one of the largest and most ambitious live action films ever made in Australia.

“This is a clear vote of confidence in Australian expertise. This proves that Sydney is an international contender for major film production.

“Filming will take place over the next two and a half years and create around 540 jobs.

“Times have been tough for our local industry and I am pleased that our assistance from the Film and Television Industry Attraction Fund helped secure this film for
NSW.

“Kennedy Miller Mitchell (KMM) will start pre-production immediately and filming is scheduled for 2010.

“CarriageWorks commercial bays in Redfern will be used as a base for its motion capture studio for Happy Feet 2 and development work for Fury Road.

“Up to 30 weeks of filming will also take place in and around Broken Hill.

Warner Bros has financed the Kennedy Miller Mitchell (KMM) production and will be the worldwide distributor for the film.

George Miller is currently directing Happy Feet 2 and says the two films are good for Sydney’s reputation as a base for sustained film production.

“Hollywood has cut its production in half. Big movies like Fury Road and Happy Feet are rare and competitively sought after in all the filmmaking regions of the world,” said Mr Miller.

“The production agreements have been a long time in the making and Premier Rees and his team have worked like Trojans to ensure this substantial investment comes
into this country.

“These are complex and challenging films and funding them is a big leap of faith by Warner Bros.

“Not only does it help fuel the local economy but it means many talented people get a chance to practise their craft and lift their skills.

“Making movies is like football. How can you achieve excellence if you get to play only once in a blue moon?” said Mr Miller.

Ian Macdonald, NSW Minister for State Development said that Fury Road would be a unique production bringing multiple benefits to the film and other industries.

“With film and production work occurring not just here, but in the Far West, the economic benefits that Fury Road will bring with it will be felt right across the State,” said Mr Macdonald.

“With over 500 jobs associated with the film, securing its production here in NSW represents a huge boon for the state.”

The first Mad Max movie (1979) was filmed in Victoria with Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (1981) filmed mainly in and around Broken Hill. Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985) was shot in Coober Pedy in South Australia and in NSW.

Fury Road builds on recent wins including Tomorrow When the War Began, Underbelly III, Happy Feet 2 and Guardians of Ga’hoole which are all currently in production in New South Wales.

GREAT NEWS.... : ow this leads me to a couple of questions??

Interceptor?? Who is providing their coupe for it?? Who is building it??
What other vehicles are involved??
Anyone know anything about this??
How is MAX involved (or Mel Gibson for that matter?)??

*P.S* not sure if this thread has already been done - hope not!!

Thoughts? Discuss??

I am suspecting that this will take place (the story) between Mad Max and Mad Max 2, to sew up how things got the way they were in Mad Max 2. It was always a bit of a jump.

2 1/2 years to finish?? Well, I COULD have my replica done by then!!! I never would have thought my car would be "current".

30 weeks to shoot??? Holy crap!!! That's a long shoot.
