Default cv joint

Could someone tell me, on a front-wheel drive car, do both wheels drive or is one free-wheeling?
If one CV joint fails, would this stop the car from driving?

both drive through the diff if on fails there is a loud bang and you go nowhere

drive shaft cv joint removal
Easy to do your self if you have the tools
this proceedure used on most every front wheel drive car
all about CV joints
