Time for a new clutch?

Hi guys im new here so i hope im putting this in the right place.

I have an Au2 I6 5spd Trayback and i think the clutch is on the way out, this is my first manual car iv owned so im not to clued up on clutches. The pedal feel is super heavey and it feels like its slipping when i release it.

For example driving up a hill i changed from 4 to 3, let the clutch out and the engine free reved for a few seconds before the gear engaged.

Does it sound like i nedd to replace it, if so what sort of clutch should i look at getting and what should i expect to pay to have it fitted?

sure sounds like the clutch is on the way out. when you take off from a standing start, does it feel like the engine is working harder, but the car not moving as quick as it should? if so, get the clutch replaced. not sure on prices but id be thinking about $350 including labour...maybe someone else would be better on prices here

Yeah off the line it really sucks, takes a while for it to engage... but like i said iv only really ever owned autos so im not entirly sure.

Gear changes just seem to be laggy compared to other manuals iv driven, no matter how fast i pull the shift it seems to take a while for the gear box to catch on!

Not to mention the pedal weighs a tonne!

hey mate, i suggest u do not put a heavy duty clutch in, u don't need it, plus eventually your pedal box will snap. just like mine did. i put a standard clutch back in and its freakign 3 times better then the heavy duty its not heavy on ya foot and it chirps 2nd with ease haha. I got it at trade price and installed by a mate. so i couldn't tell u a price sorry.

I got a Daiken Excedy clutch put in, heavy duty yes, but lighter pedal than stock.
Still an organic clutch, and was $550 for the clutch/pressure plate, flywheel machine and labour.
Now ive got a Daiken 5 puck brass button, which is lighter again, but on or off.

i had my clutch replaced in the ute altho its a V8,the clutch was something like 500 for it alone and after the flywheel got machined and labour all up i got about 20 bux back from $1000,dunno if 350 would be in the ballpark altho maybe a 6 is heaps cheaper.

I was quoted $2300.00 for a heavy duty clutch replacement from RDP for my XR8.....

I just had a quote at $640 clutch kit, flywheel and labor.
Does this sound about right?

Thats not to bad, Ive done mine my self its a ***** of a job with out a hoist but meh if you want to save $300 or $400 on labour costs and you know what your doing its ok.

Thanks for that bomber.... i was for some reason under the assumption that it was only about an hours work but the mechanic quoted for 3 hours. I guess il just part with my $600 :(

recently i bough an exedy heavy dute cushin button i got it for about $500 (but that was with a 25% discount) the lace i got it fitted at quoted me about $700 to install the new one a machine the flywheel.
