Coolant leak, S3 220

Fellas,

Much to my disappoint, I had noticed Green coolant on the garage floor when I was leaving for work today. I was very concerned due to the location of the spot, it appeared to be at the rear of the motor.

I managed to call into my mechanic on the way home and asked if we could put the car up on the hoist so we could inspect the leak, and as I suspected a concerning leak. The leak was coming between the gear box and the rear of motor, we suspected the rear welsh plug on the S3 220 has perished.

My mechanic said he would need to drop the gear box to fix the problem, and would do the job for $400. Usually I can do majority of the mechanical work at home, however this job is little out of my league to fix, more so tools and equipment. So firstly, is the quote reasonable and should I consider changing anything else whilst the box is off.

I was thinking may be it's an opportunity to change clutch and rear crank seal and possible sump gasket. The clutch feels good, I am unsure if the clutch has been done in the past, I have had the car for 12 months, and it's only done 107,000klm?

I drive the car daily and not hard, nor do I drop the clutch to spin the rear wheels, as I tend to look after my XR8 because it's in fantastic condition for it's age, plus I am getting to old for that stuff.

Any opinions or advice would be a great help.
