Default BF Radio reception troubles

Hi Fadi.
Im not sure if i should ask here. i have a feb 07 BF XR6, i am having alot of trouble getting a strong signal for local radio stations, is there an upgrade other than mounting and external antenna that will help pick up the signal? i have mounted a glass mount antenna and have a double adapter that lets me plug the factory and the after market antenna's in and im still struggling to pick up signal.
Do you have any hints?

Thanks
