Default Ford's $2 Grand Prix

Seems Ford Marketing have finally grown some. Great Video !!

http://www.ford.com.au/servlet/Satel...apper&site=FOA#
Taking the $2 challenge.

Take one fuel efficient Toyota Corolla, one powerful Holden Commodore and one brand new, super advanced Falcon EcoLPi. Give them each $2 of fuel and test them against each other for performance and fuel efficiency. To find out who wins the $2 Grand Prix check out our videos. You’ll find it’s an investment well worthwhile

Link was int he FG2 thread, but yes it is good.

LOL how they take so long to explain the LPi at the start and just say corolla and commodore in half a second.

Stuff like this is great to have on the net, gets emailed around very quickly.

They REALLY need to show this on TV & Radio. Maybe not in the exact same fashion, but really pushing claimed power & economy figures against its rivals.

Hmmm... as much as i like the add... there is one glaring hole everyone has missed in this commercial, which the opposition can use.

The claim as shown in the add is that $2 worth of fuel gets you further then the competition...

Guys.... Its in the actual add if you look carefully .... when it shows the 3 nozzles and then shows the petrol pump readouts... look carefully.

$2 worth of petrol got both the Commodore and the Corolla 1.49 litres of fuel.... and $2 worth of LPG AT 67CENTS per litre got 3.17LITRES of LPG!

Its a play on figures.. that is how much $2 gets you, but that wont work as LPG is much cheaper then petrol.

Great add however.

yes, the quantity may be different but your average joe will probably base expenditure on fuel on the same amount of fuel purchesed, besides, lpg does burn at a faster rate.

don't get your point $ is the correct base on which to compare - when you are looking at different fuels with different costs per litre, other measures such as l/100km are not relevant (the higher average cost of diesel is the classic one that people constantly miss)

Thats the whole point.. you goose! that why it's titled $2 worth of FUEL not Petrol.

Looking carefully, they filled the others with BP 98 too.

But you still get further on $2 dollars, who cares how many litres it buys as long as the price between the 2 stays at the same % difference. $50 worth of LPG will get you nearly twice as far as $50 worth of unleaded if you compare a commodore.

Thats right, I couldnt care less if it was 20L/100. Im not driving to the Alice so if it was costing stuff all to fill then happy days.

This is a great step in the right direction, there is ALOT of misinformation about LPG and its going to take some educating.

over the long run? lol.

we're not talking 400m monsters here, we're talking about traffic hacks.
100m sprint is pretty typical of what the average driver puts his/her foot down for.

I own one of those corollas and i've driven them VE's for work. I can say that this test sounds pretty accurate.

FTR my corolla does about $50 for 450k, and my falcon does about $40 for 450k

I have had a similar experience, we have a 2000 Opel Corsa (1,4L manual) and my AU2, and I know for a fact my AU costs less to run than the "Barina".

Diesel would throw a spanner in the works, and without giving it too much thought id still back the LPG over a long period, not just a couple of tanks.

Yes I realise that is all about $2 worth of fuel... but its not a good test as LPG at 67cent a litre as opposed around $1.40 a litre for fuel.
The average person wont put two and two together.

diesal was once a lot cheaper then petrol then when demand went up because more and more diesals became more efficiant and popular, the price shot past normal fuel.
what happens when LPG price then reaches parity to petrol?
(and if you believe it wont, then I have a bridge for sale)
