can anyone tell what brake modifications can be done to a mkII cortina is there a booster & mastercyl thats a easy fit

The standard and easy mod is to fit a booster.
The "factory" location for mounting is in the front left corner of the engine bay. The PBR VH44 is the common one used (and was what was supplied in the optional kit from Ford). Contact HydroBoost in Melbourne. They have the units and correct mounting brackets, etc. They also do excellent work on reco-ing master cylinders, etc (I will never buy changeover again).... they can install for you if you don't have your own double flairing tool. Next step would be slotted rotors and good pads... have not identified sources for these as yet. As standard, I use DBA slotteds/Bendix ultimates but they don't make them for the Mk2 Cortina... and my attempt to sweet talk them into making them for me failed. Thereafter would be bigger calipers/rotors.... Have not really looked into that but I believe Hoppers Stoppers have a kit. Other mods that have been done are:- Rear drums to disc conversion Install dual master cylinder.

I did some surfing and looks like my favorite combo of DBA slotted and Bendix ultimates are available for the Mk2 Cortina GT
DBA part number is DBA113S and the pads are Bendix DB625U. They are listed for Capri Mk1 GT and all the sizes match those on the Mk2 Cortina GT. Yes, the pads do chew out the discs and they also make dust... But is the best combo I have found to date that works (no fade, no "disc warp", best braking performance). Did not locate any discs/pads for the 440/220 Cortina brakes.

You can also look at putting 2.8 Capri vented discs with Volvo 240 (4 piston) Calipers
There are also lots of 4 piston calipers/kits available out of the UK(Hi-Spec or Wilwood) I'm running Mk2 struts in my Anglia and am looking at the same issues (-: |
