Doesn't seem to be much traffic here but I'll give it a burl anyway!
My daily driver is a '99 GLXI Laser with the 1.8 & 5 speed. It's a ripper little car but is severely lacking in power. What engine conversions can be done? I'm thinking 2.2 turbo out of a TX5.

Mazda FS-ZE 2.0L
Go to www.astinagt.com They're the Ford Laser/Mazda 323 specialists. What you got there is esentially a Mazda 323, the FS-ZE 2.0L is a direct swap, the 1.8L gearbox and clutch mate up with no modifications, the factory ECU will also run the engine no problem except being a little rich. You'll run into an issue though because the 1.8L ECU will only let the thing rev out to 6400 RPM before cutting out, the FS-ZE peak power is at 7200 RPM, but its still a ******** better than the 1.8L. You'll need to import the engine from Japan or NZ as that engine wasn't an option in our cars (SP20 had a weaker 2.0L engine, different model. only 90 something KW). I know you didn't ask but don't go the upgrade to 2.0. IMO my SR2 is a slug.
