Nasty. Only last decade Holden was running three shifts at the Adelaide plant and targeting 160,000 vehicles per year (but best year they achieved was in the 130,000 range).

I think from memory during VT production was when they hit peak output with the 3 shifts churning out 300k units in the 3 years from Aug 97 to Aug00 and 99 was the best year, so it's 20 years ago, although to be fair it doesn't seem that long, time flies.

Both Ranger and Triton outsold Hilux in the 4x4 sector..and good numbers continue for Mustang also.. I never thought I would see the day when Mercedes Benz outsold Holden in Australia. Certainly tough times for the General locally atm, where as in the States, they are going gang busters..

Wow, some people hang **** on my little Kia Picanto but profit margin aside, it sells more than Ecosport, Endure, Escape, Focus and Mondeo combined and for the 3rd time In 12 months Kia outsells Ford without a Ute on offerinfact 2 of the top 5 dont offer a Ute, it'll get interesting in 18mths time when they bring one to their range.

Picanto........from $15,790. Just imagine what sales Ford could get if it sold all its cars and SUVs at Picanto prices... I doubt that any of them costs more than $4,000 extra to build.... Ecosport.......from $26,236 Focus...........from $29,543 Mondeo........from $36,948 Escape.........from $43,622 Endura.........from $49,102 I think Kia's new Pick up will cause the cheaper Thai utes a lot of grief but Ranger and Hilux not so much.... |

and that's the context we need to appreciate when comparing a volume seller
to Ford's low selling range of vehicles. This is the reality for mostly young shoppers looking for their first car and not wanting to get stitched up with high payments, most are financed and you could see how repayments would be nearly double even before we look at whole cost of ownership. In no way am I trying to defend Ford's pricing, it's just something in their corporate blood now that they won't sell lots of cheap base models just to make sales look good. Personally, I think the sweet spot for them is somewhere in the middle. At the moment I think all of Ford's starting prices are about $6K too high... They're trying to factor in Euro like prices here and it's not working. |

I agree the Kia Ute won't hurt Ranger or Hilux, but it will help the brand either climb the ladder or consolidate a top 5 spot at least, something very few if any would have put money on 10yrs ago. |

So obviously people prefer McDonald's, Target and BigW which is why they sell more than some others...much like KIA

Jesus.... Triton has come outta the box strong with what 115 less sales than Ranger? wonder if its a new trend for Mitsubishi, there are only 2 new Rangers in the work carpark here but 4 of the new triton.

Mitsubishi are very clever.
I bet they make a mint because they hold onto their underpinnings for much longer than other brands. The ASX, Outlander and Lancer I believe are based on the same reliable platform. Drag out the model with several face lifts and upgrades in screw in tech and you have a very cheap yet reliable 'new car'. Triton was / is offered with a promotional 7yr warranty, and from what I have read that will be standardised across the board with Mitsubishi by the end of the year. Someone on her debated with me that it's not about sales but profit. I don't like the fact that Ford don't seem to have 'cheep and cheerful' base models that can compete with the Koreans and Japanese. What would the VFacts for Ford look like without the Ranger? Volume is what keeps dealerships, service departments and spare parts departments going, not selling less cars with higher returns. Kia / Hyundai / Mitsubishi seem to have a broader appeal. I'm not surprised that Mitsubishi have 3 in the top 10. If / when the Koreans bring in a full sized serious 4x4 and a Ute they will own the market.

Does anyone think we will ever see a falcon or commodore style ute in the market again. I mean a ute that drives like a sedan
Market seems to be flooded with trucks like Ranger and Hilux

Hyundai is throwing it's hat into the ring, they asked what people wanted a while ago for a utility vehicle, and they will no doubt thrown in 7 year warranty.
It's almost old news now, and probably already posted. https://www.carsguide.com.au/car-new...w-about-koreas

The sinking of Mazda 3 continues, out of top 10 with 1700 sales. CX30 looking like wise product development
Also there is nothing in top 10 I would want to buy

All well and good until the tapped out buyers stop buying. And the 3 mainly sold to private buyers, too. So no fleet purchases backstopping sales. Much as i like the pending cx30, sales may be weak because it will appeal to private buyers, who have too much debt to service as it is, the current housing dead cat bounce not withstanding.

I think it was Samoa that most recently swapped over? I heard stories of busses getting a door cut into the opposite sides with an angle grinder and weeks of mayhem after swapping.
As long as they make RHD cars we will remain RHD. Just imagine the billions it would cost to change! Sent from my LG-M700 using Tapatalk

Interesting that your reports of mayhem don't align with what was reported in the press, eg https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/wor...ing-sides.html https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...rs-switch-left Interestingly enough, Samoa changed from the right hand side to the left. And here we are talking about moving the opposite way.
