Here ya go,

(165KW/1700KG)*1000 = 97.05KW/Tonne, Your allowed 125KW/Tonne
(5.0L/1700KG)*1000 = 2.94L/Tonne, Your allowed 3.5L/Tonne

VicRoads

Be sure to tell vicroads to eat sh1t on my behalf...

Depending on what weight VicRoads put on those cars they are all legal. 1600kg is prob a good weight for the SWB's and 1700 for the FBT.

200kw + 1600kg = 125kw/tonne

yeah, as fourbarrel said, using the formula from the vicroads vebsite, it's fine. Was it just a customer service rep that told you no ? Because unless there are new rules in town i don't know about, you should be fine. Ring them up again quoting the forumla on their own site, see what they tell you. Unless that car has just been given a general black mark for some reason i don't know about ? As was said, ba & bf I6's are legal, and they're 182 and 190kw's resepctively, and a little LIGHTER than the fairlane. Ask them again.

Don't want to upset anyone here but a CT110 postie bike has the following,

(5.625KW/89KG)*1000 = 63.2KW/Tonne

That's only a ducks fart behind the fairlane...

P.S.
Don't buy a fairlane with a six, (148KW/1700KG)*1000 = 87KW/Tonne

That could be seriously embarrasing in a stiff head wind... ;)

Are you sure it is 1700kg? I think it would be closer to 1600 - not that it makes enough difference to matter in this case.

just keep going to Vicroads and asking them. if theysay no, its not legal then point out their own mathimatics that say it is legal. once they agree or say it is legal, ask them to put it in writing. shouldnt have any more problems.

When i was on my p's it was 125kw per tonne or 3.5L per tonne - is that still the case? I used to drive dad's Grange all the time on my p's - one cop even asked me about the car, i got scared and told him i was legal to drive it, he said he wasnt worried about that, he was just interested in the car - as far as i knew from the list, any Ford 302 V8 (including fuel injected ones) Falcon or Fairlane were ok, and Holden 5L V8 if it was a COmmodore wagon or Statesman - pretty silly really 165kw isnt that much,
Statesman 185kw V8 was ok too but the 215kw wasnt

5 litres are legal in all Falcons bar probably the Sprint and EL GT. I drove a 5 litre in an EB Fairmont on my P's and never had a problem.

Ive never had any problems with either vicroads or the police... and ive had my licence for a year. The rego sticker lists the tare weight of the NC V8, as 1600kg... so that with the 165kW means its still well within the limits of a p-plater.

I dont think the police care too much about 'stockish' V8s, they are more worried about VL's and WRX's... ive never had a second look from a cop.
And vicroads? well, its a part of the government, so this kind of bueracratic bull***t is to be expected.

Good luck with getting it on the road
