Default new exhaust question and prices

so i was thinking of in vesting in a complete exhuast system from engine back is this a reasonable price?

Pacemaker 4499's New : $460

2.1/2" red-back exhaust system: $450

high-flow cat: ($ no idea) <<---- is it worth it

so what do u guys think,
i want noise but not something loud, something soft yet u can still hear it when i give it a bit.

thanks

Are those prices fitted? If so, that's not too bad. Magnaflow cat should be around $200 fitted.

If your current cat has done more than 100000 km, then you may as well replace it at the same time.

If you can find pacemakers for $460, you're doing well (let alone fitting, which is aorund $150 to $200). And a redback system will cost you around $100, plus fitting at around $50.

If you can get paccies, cat and redback for around $100, you're doing OK.

Before you pay that for the pacemakers, just check your local supplier cant do them for less. I paid $380 with new gasket and bolts for mine. As for cats. In my opinion, a ballistic high flow is better, because theyre shiny and I like shiny things.

Ballistic 200cpsi will flow better, and they're only a little more than a magnaflow, and they are shiney!

I'm running a similar system using 4499s, a single redback muffler and the stock cat. Have heard a couple of other AUs with the same setup as well that sound pretty good for a 6. I've found that it can be quite noisy (or as Swordsman has put it - "offensive" lol) at first - especially on cold start, but once the system carbons up the volume dies down a little and the note becomes deeper. One thing I can say though is that it gives a very nice rumble at idle and is fairly rorty when you rev it out.

All up I think it was about 330 for the 4499s and about 400 for the exhaust fitted - though this was just over a year ago and in the meantime I believe the cost of paccies has gone up a fair bit. Good luck.

Haha jc yeh I thought 100 bucks that's cheaper than a 2nd hand system haha.
I paid 570 fitted for my 4480s but the place I go to now does them for 470 fitted. Their prices are pretty much rock bottom tho so don't expect it so cheap unless you live in Melbourne and go there lol

I got my Wildkat extractors second hand, tho they were quite new for $125, Zetti 200cpsi stainless cat from ebay for $60 or something, well below the buy it now price anyway. Then I got a 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust, with 2 mufflers with 2.5" flanges, internals are all 2.5" mandrel bent and mufflers are perforated instead of louvred, for better flow. Finnished with a twin angle tip (which will soon be replaced with a 3" polished dump). For the custom made exhaust and fitment of extractor, cat, exhaust and tip was $550.

I saved by buying second hand extractors, I wirebrushed them, and painted them with matt black flameproof paint and let them sit in the sun for bit. I got it all fitted up about a month after they were painted, and as yet there is no flaking or peeling after several months of daily use. So in other words, if you can find something in good nick, you might be able to save a bit.

Get the cat at the same time. If you get the standard cat to suit to the extractors is gonna be the same amount of labour (probably $200) as it is to get the after market one, and its best to do mods like these bang all in one hit so you can really notice. The catback is priced fairly. I wouldnt pay that for extractors though considering how easy they are to install if you have a welder.
edit: woohooo! 1000th post. Go me.
In fact if you buy say a $200 high flow cat (try sureflow on here theyre great) labour will stay the same and you'll get out of it for just a smidgen over $1000 which isnt too bad considering the difference it will make.

that quoted price wouldn't happen to be from exhaust bros would it? I rang them up today and got quoted $300 as well as $30-$100 extra depending on what tip i get but i wouldn't have a clue what brand exhaust it is, just asked for a sports system.

I just remembered that I sent XR-CHEIF a video of my exhaust (4499's, 100cpsi ballistic cat, 1 muffler redback cat back). If you want, ask him if he still has it so you can see what it sounds like first. I think after that he doesnt want extractors anymore.

ye im from the geelong area, just got my licence about a month ago so you wouldnt of seen me around. got an 01 black series 2 au fairmont on 17' tickfords, look out for it :P seen yours around a while back and it looks sooo clean

got the exhaust done at exhaust bros this morning (turns out it was a redback), charged me 400 with a twin 3" tip and it only took about an hour and a half (ditch the old rusted system, fit the new one and weld the tip) which was really handy. Single muffler system (which he said is still legal but im not quite sure if it is) and it sounds really good with the stock cat and extractors (really loud up to about 40kms when its shifting through gears but then it dies down alot and u can bearly hear it after that) but all in all im still very happy with the sound

south geelong is pretty good ive heard (think they might be a bit cheaper than exhaust bros but bros is closer to my place so it was more of a convenience thing)
and im not sure about town and country, got a few quotes from them a while back but i cant remember how much they were

haha exactly what i was talking about, so intimidating driving past a group of holden boys at the beach but then i guess you still know u drive a better car :P
i was down at the beach at around 10pm on saturday night, wasnt a commodore in sight (or maybe they all left before i showed up lol) but the stupid gate thing was closed.
then again i did see at least 10 commodores lined up at that carpark on the top of limeburners
just driving through town saw 3 ford boys in a bit of a convoy when i stopped at maccas but when i saw them from up close a bit later on i realised they had crappy body kits and all sorts of stuff (so i just kept driving lol)
