Yes... I remember doing one on a mates EL back in the day and the threads were imperial. I'd assume the AU would be the same.
The kits I would buy back them included imperial thread bolts, you'd have to go out any buy metric bolts if you needed it for the I6. Just had to make sure you bought quality high tensile bolts.
