At the very core of the problem is how deeply conservative Ford are. While predicting sales and sale mixes is very hard, Ford have had a decade of evidence pointing towards buyers wanting high spec models, Ranger/Everest/Mustang in particular. So they really don't have an excuse for not being able to gear up properly for that demand. Again, Ford are just too conservative for their own good sometimes.
