Apparently Holdens (badged as such), never met with much more than mediocre success over there. However, take that dirty Holden lion-with-his-paw-on-a-ball away and replace it with a Chevy bowtie - sales dearth solved, and how!
For whatever reason, the Chevrolet name held quite some cachet in South Africa, whereas, perceptibly (to them) Holden had none. Quite beside the point of course that many of the Chevys sold over there were merely Holdens with a different badge....
I'm guessing that Ford South Africa must have taken notice of all of this, hence our venerable
Falcon GT being sold as the more upmarket
Fairmont...
